Always nice to hear good things about our organization - especially when compared to our neighbor a few miles down south.

I’ve been away for a while and this is an older article, so apologize if this has already been posted.  Couldn’t find anything with a quick search.

I remember a time when we would be reading various articles of the same nature about the Orioles. Say what you want about Elias, but he is turning this organization into a well oiled machine.

It blows my to see non-Baltimore publications writing positive things about Dem O’s.

My biggest fear for the Orioles right now is that someone will break up this front office. I hope they all get extended for another 5 years so we can see this total transformation through.

The key guys are Elias and Sig.  Elias is going nowhere, and Sig strikes me as the kind of guy who's content to be a #2, not particularly interested in what all goes into being the main guy.  So maybe he hangs around longer than the assistant GM (not sure on actual titles) of a well run organization normally would.

Fingers crossed.  But even if some leave, they will hopefully have a pipeline in the front office just like they are building for players in the minors.  By all accounts they've hired a lot of analysts (example - Sig said on TV during a recent game, the Orioles have 5 people doing the exact job he did by himself in Houston years ago), which in theory should lead to that pipeline.

I don't think we have any information on Elias' contract status.

If the team continues to improve why wouldn't he move to a more prestigious, better paying job if one is offered?

You think the fact that he was born in Virginia is going to keep him here if the big boys come calling?

I had no idea where Elias was born.  You might be right, but I don't think that happens, not for a while anyway. I think he'll stay but of course we don't know.  I think he'll at least stay long enough to have the aforementioned pipeline ready for a replacement.  Didn't the guy in TB jump to the Dodgers a few years back (Friedman?).  They didn't skip a beat; would like to think we'd be similarly prepared.

Either way worrying about it right now is pointless, if you ask me.

I'm not worried about it, I'm just willing to accept it might happen.

Assuming everything goes as planned, he won't leave until they've won it all or had several years of playoffs. You don't think he wants to see all that work payoff? Friedman left the Rays for the Dodgers but that wasn't until after they'd had several years of success. And I guess that's also a good example of having a pipeline of trained analytical folks. They haven't really missed a beat developmentally and competitively since Friedman left for the open wallet option.

Not sure if you're implying I'm in denial that it 'might happen', but I'm certainly not.  I don't think it will and I won't ruin the good vibes I'm feeling from this team for the first time in a long time, by speculating about it.  Simple as that.

I recall you saying something along the lines of he got this job because no one elae wanted him and anything good done here should be expected because of the draft position.  You think anyone wants him now?

A long piece this morning from one of BP's Nationals specialists of recent years.

https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/76664/prospectus-feature-the-orioles-got-the-good-austin-voth-the-nationals-couldnt-why/

The main observation is the tweak of higher release point on all three of fastball-cutter-curve have helped the whole arsenal play more effectively (and why couldn't the Nationals have thought of this?).

Obviously we're enjoying better short run results, and we'll see how Voth's body handles the adjustments over a larger sample size.    Broadly anytime a 30-year old pitcher does something perhaps novel to how they've been pitching much of their life, I figure something in the kinetic chain will give sooner rather than later, but you never know.    I do feel good pitch to pitch monitoring will be diligent, and rest patterns optimized.
