I assume he will be back as soon as available. Still, seems like he has never had Hyde's confidence despite having decent numbers this year. I wonder if something is going on that we don't know about?

Akin’s been looking shaky of late.  They can say it’s not performance-based, but he hasn’t pitched that well in the second half.

He has to stay down for 10 days, which is all that’s left in the season, right?

Akin was a pleasant surprise for much of the season. But his second half has not matched his first half. 

1st half  -  2.36 ERA, 0.881 WHIP, 0.580 OPS

2nd half - 5.79 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 0.816 OPS

Agreed, he's been putting a ton of guys on base lately, his second half he looked much like he has in previous years.

Oof. I felt like he had become less reliable but I hadn't noticed it was that stark.

• Perez pitched Sat & Sun, he hasn't gone 3 days in a row in his MLB career
• Krehbiel pitched Sat & Sun, he hasn't gone 3 days in a row in his MLB career
• Baker pitched Sat & Sun, he hasn't gone 3 days ina row in his MLB career
• Akin threw 27 pitches yesterday, clearly not available
• DL Hall pitched yesterday, he is a converted starter who is unlikely to be used on back to back days
• Tate pitched Saturday and Sunday with 44 pitches and pitched at least 1.1 innings both days
• Jake Reed pitched Sat & Sn, he hasn't gone 3 days in a row all year

Bautista threw a career high 33 pitches Saturday, he is probably available but only for the 9th.

So if we hadn't made a move we would have been looking at nothing but Lyles and Spenser Watkins to get us to Bautista in the 9th.  Or else using a guy in a situation where we normally never would.

Akin hasn't been very good the past month, but I take it Krehbiel doesn't have any options remaining? Krehibiel can't be trusted right now unless he's pitching mop up duty.

Krehbiel still has 2 options remaining, but he's been pretty rough since August started as well.

Thanks... I thought Krehbiel had at least one option left. It's a bit puzzling to me then, unless there's more going on with Akin that hasn't been made public.
