You realize that the Orioles have the 2nd best record in baseball with the staff they have, and three or four promotable arms in AAA... right?

Was there really a need to be condescending in your reply? I asked a simple question. And you trust trust those players to plug any holes they have in the starting rotation and bullpen this season? Because I don't. Gray-Rod already had a shot and failed, DL Hall is just starting transition from RP to SP and the bullpen arms are complete wildcards. If you want to count Hall as a lockdown RP, I'll give you that one, but it doesn't seem like they plan to use him in that role.

Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

I mean, he's kinda right though. Cano has given up 19 hits in his last 12.4 IPed with only 9 Ks in that time. And Hyde continues to run him out there like he's the same unhittable pitcher he was in May. Maybe he turns things around, but the more likely scenario is probably that the league has figured him out.

I agree he’s likely to return to his historical performances.  Was having a chuckle with  @Malike  referencing his avatar.

So...um, we don't need starting pitching, right?

Our bullpen blew this game. Irvin wasn't great but Hyde would rather waste the bullpen guys in a loss than let Irvin eat some innings.

Middle relief won’t matter in the playoffs.

The Os have 3 needs..a starter, a back end reliever and another bat.  It’s possible that the “other bat” is already in the org.

They also have to be willing to go away from the vets who just aren’t quite good enough…or at the very least, take away a lot of their at bats.

Reliever (maybe more than one), then a starter, then a big bat (though maybe the bat could come from the minors).

I'm not a believer that any of the minor league arms are really ready yet -- maybe unless the O's were to try Grayson as a reliever later in the year.  Cole Irvin has looked terrible, Grayson may be better as reliever (at the MLB level) until next year, and who knows if Means can give us anything this season.

One idea -- maybe Westburg could come up to play 1B if Mounty is out for awhile and for when O'Hearn isn't there.

If Hall and Grayson aren't ready who does that fall on?
First round picks, liked by industry sources, been in the system forever.  Why aren't they ready yet?

We know Elias has a bias toward drafting hitters, is he emphasizing hitting development?

I don't think Hyde thought he was wasting bullpen guys.  I think he expected them to keep us in the game.  But I think the bullpen is being a bit overused, plus whatever pitching depth we have in the minors (such as Reed Garrett) isn't ready yet.

I’m all for GRod being a starter that will be added but I think another one will still be needed.

SG if you could add an available SP at the deadline, who would you want and what would you be willing to give up?

Pitching and more pitching.

Kremer, Wells, Bradish have pitched well for us and hope they continue to but I would imaging their on some kinda innings limit.

Gibson and Irving are the only two starters that have pitched more than 125 innings. And Irving just isn’t going to make it.

    • Rather sign Pivetta. Probably costs less and you don’t have to give up talent.  But if you get Gray cheaply and they eat some contract, he could be a plan c or d type guy.
    • In my mind, I'll be sitting right about where I was for Game 2 of the 2014 ALDS, which I think was in Section 53. In the real world, I'll be at home , probably on the sofa, with my broken ankle iced from time to time and elevated. I'll be following the game on TV and the game thread on my laptop. At least the building won't shake -- or if it does, I'll know there's a problem.  If only two of Westburg, Urias and me were going to return in time for Tuesday's opener, I guess I might as well be the odd man out.
    • Just saw it.  Mutambo died earlier today.  Who is going to be the third?
    • Gray is actually due $65M. $25M next year, $35M in 2026, and a $5M buyout on a $30M mutual option in 2027. Plus he has a no trade clause Not really any surplus value there. He could be worth close to 2/$65M, but pretty much no way he exceeds it. Doubt I would give up more than a bag of balls if they had to take on the whole contract.
    • It can’t hurt to do research on him and place a call to Cards GM & see what’s involved . We need SP help .
    • Here is my roster. Wasn't an easy task with some tough decisions C  Adley Rutschmann 2022 1B Rafaeil Palmeiro 1998 2B Brian Roberts 2009 SS Miguel Tejada 2006 3B Manny Machado 2015 OF Adam Jones 2015 OF Albert Belle 1999 OF Trey Mancini 2017 DH Chris Davis 2013          Bench Gunnar Henderson 2024 Bench Melvin Mora 2004 Bench Jay Gibbons 2003 Bench Matt Wieters 2011 --------------------- SP Mike Mussina 2000 SP Jason Johnson 2001 SP Wei-Yen Chen    2014 SP Erik Bedard 2007 SP John Means 2019          RP Jorge Julio 2002 RP BJ Ryan 2005 RP Jim Johnson 2012 RP Koji Uehara    2010 RP Zack Britton    2016 RP Felix Bautista 2023 RP Darren O'Day    2014 RP George Sherril 2008
    • You must choose a 26-man roster from 26 seasons. Here are the rules. Ignore 2020 Select 13 position players, with 9 starters and 4 bench players Select 13 pitchers, with 5 starters and 8 relievers You can only select one player from each season from 1998-2024 (exclude 2020) You can only select a given player ONCE  Starting pitchers have to be starting pitchers, relievers have to be relievers I will amend rules as appropriate from any suggestions you have. Go.
