Maybe they hoped otherwise.  Maybe they hoped they would get someone else too.  He still has value. They need to figure how to get Cano straight though. Been a bad month for the bullpen other than Bautista, especially with inherited runners.

Well at least they’re making Flaherty feel at home.  Aside from the fact that the Jays trade for like 3 of his teammates, this kind of innovative losing is very 2023 Cardinals.

Fujinama looks like a good lower leverage reliever. Pressure appears to impact his control/effectiveness. He is the exact kind of guy you don’t want to depend on down the stretch and into the playoffs.

But if Fiju (and we'll see if that continues) has trouble getting outs when coming into games with runners on, then his value is a significant drawback in the playoffs.  We need a guy who can come in and put out fires.

“Hope” doesn’t seem like a great strategy to rely on.
