That’s ridiculous. Blame the offense. You can’t run Felix out there for 2 innings every time it’s a close divisional game. It’s not the playoffs.

And then when the playoffs come and the splitter isn’t as sharp and he’s throwing 98 and we lose because of it, people will blame Hyde for using him too much.

There has to be some give and take at times. You can’t just use him up all the time.

The offense failed on many occasions last night and the Tor BP really stepped up. That’s just the way it goes. Again, the other team gets paid to play too. Some nights, they are just better than you are.

Nobody questioned the idea of leaving Bautista in before Hyde took him out. You don’t have to make excuses for bad managerial decisions. We have plenty of weaker, non-divisional opponents coming up where Bautista can get rest. Toronto can crawl back into the divisional race with a sweep. These games are absolutely more important, I don’t see how that can be reasonably disputed.

Sure, you can blame the offense but Toronto has one of the best team ERAs. You’re not going to go out there and score 7 off them every day. Take advantage of opportunities to win the ones you can. Hyde didn’t do that.

Mateo has solid numbers vs LHP

He has very good numbers on the first pitch and ahead in the count.

He has not had success getting down bunts and has been terrible in 2 strike counts.

Trying to bunt there was an high risk setup with minimal potential return.

His numbers vs lefties since May aren’t that good.

Rodriguez has a 1.4 WHIP, do you think he's not going to have another stinker this season? Does he belong on the playoff roster based on the few starts he's had since coming back up? What if Toronto blows his doors off tonight?

Flaherty has had a 1.5+ whip over his last 30 starts, can't compare that to a rookie learning and improving rapidly.

Amazing how many people defend a bad pitcher just because he is now on the O's roster

In my opinion we should just have an open mind and see how Flaherty does the rest of the way.  And it’s not just Flaherty we need to watch.  We just need to see who finishes strong.  Remember, we have a bunch of pitchers exceeding their previous highs for IP, uncertainty about how Wells and Means will look, and Gibson has a history of fading down the stretch.

Long and short, I don’t presume Flaherty is on the postseason roster.  He’ll have to earn it down the stretch.  But he’s not the only one in that position.

He also had a bad Cards defense behind him and has a 345 BABIP, which is insanely high.  The Orioles have a better defense, so that should help.

Hyde put the team in a position to lose when he didn’t have to.

We were in position to win in the bottom of the 9th and it took an incredible play by Bichette and a potential game winning hit by  Henderson falling 1 foot foul to even get it to extra innings.

So if we win tomorrow, we would be 79-48 and Toronto would be 70-58.

That would be 9.5 up, 10 in the loss column, and since we have the tiebreak, it's really like being up 11 in the loss column.

With just 35 games to go for us, 34 to them.

It would be a two team race for the AL East.  Toronto wouldn't even be worth mentioning anymore.

Tonight’s win was pretty huge.  We truly can bury them tomorrow, and they can’t make any huge dent in our lead no matter what happens.  Go get ‘em!
