Yeah, I don't believe this has anything to do with team "chemistry."

I doubt it’s the primary motivator, just to be clear, but for a team that’s brought in Adam Frazier this year and kept Rougned Odor on the roster all last year (in addition Robinson Chironos last year), and cited their leadership as reasons for why they signed them, it’s clear the brass here place some level of importance on team chemistry in roster decisions.

Rightly or wrongly.

This just doesn’t make sense unless they’ve seen some easy fix in his mechanics. He’s been awful lately and I don’t know why they’d put him in the bullpen the last month as we try to win a pennant. He wouldn’t even be eligible for the playoffs.

They think he is better than Voth plus have ability to keep him next year if they think it warrants.

Voth DFA’d. Even if we lose today, we won

He was replaced by a guy with a 6.13 ERA who has been worth -0.8 WAR this year. A guy who’s allowed runs in 7 of his last 10 outings. Giving him 12 ER in 10 IP. Getting rid of Voth is good, but replacing him with someone considerably worse is stupid.

Ability to keep him next year on an arbitration offer. Which would give him at least the 3.5 M he made this year. He’s gonna be a FA next year regardless of which team he finishes with this year.

We’ll see how it plays out. Lopez will have a short leash

I could see them potentially work something out to avoid that. We know Lopez likes it here. He knows he is coming off a bad year.
