Another reason to trade for Cease now…. It’s a very weak upcoming FA SP class. Jose Quintana might be the best “rental” SP available at the deadline.

The top upcoming FA SP are all on teams that are expected to contend.

Sasaki will probably get posted.  😉

The cornfields are quiet these days.  We were supposed to see something happen in “the next few days” about a week ago.   Maybe Povich is untouchable again.  What you say @HuskerFan?

Only if the shithole known as baltimore was quiet.

Jan 11th is also when Imanaga’s window ends too. So that is one domino to fall. Along with Uwasawa’s.

I’m warming to the idea of Stroman on a 1 year deal, but would we give him 1yr/$18 million+. It might have to be in the form of a 3yr deal with an opt out. Idk if Elias can get JA to agree to that risk.

Realistically, I’d be happy with Wells in the rotation. Irvin has the 6th SP. Brasier or Uwasawa added for the pen. Not ideal for Uwasawa but he could compete with Wells in ST. Then we’d have Means’ spot open up the following year.

I still think our organization can withstand a Westburg, Cowser/Kjerstad package for Cease. We still have Ortiz, Mayo, and Holliday as IF prospects for 2024. We have Wagner, Horvath, Beavers, and EBJ as the next wave of bats. Plus 3 first rd picks. Long shot possibilities of comp picks for Santa, and Means. A comp pick for when Cease leaves.  Holliday ROY pick.  Basallo ROY pick.

I have faith that Elias can keep the pipeline of bats coming, while focusing more on SP, and hopefully getting some of the possible added picks from above.

Overall, trading Westburg and Kjerstad/Cowser isn’t a back breaker or emptying the farm.

Just more posturing…. If he goes to spring training with them he’s likely held until someone is desperate or the deadline. Unless he’s pitching at his 2022 level or close his value goes down. If it’s not posturing Getz is playing with fire.

That's sounds like a plant comment to make teams desperate. It's not goin to work on Elias.

But Cease could be also available if they don't move him. I don't think we can really know who will be available at the trade deadline until we get closer because we don't know how the season is going to go.

It's felt like Getz has been trying to drum up interest through the media this entire time.

Things can still change if/when more significant pitchers move, but thus far it doesn't feel like the White Sox or potential suitors have moved much if at all. I'm sure it's frustrating for Getz that Boras doesn't play along anyone else's timeline and his star pitchers could possibly stay unsigned well into Spring Training.

Sure seems like someone tried to drum up bidding between the Orioles, Braves, and Reds.    Then it was the Yankees and the Mets.   Now they aren’t trading Cease at all because the price isn’t being met.  Kinda sounds like there’s only one team left standing, the Orioles.

No way I'm giving up any of the big three for Cease. He's not the kind of talent that you trade one of them for.

Agreed, plus we can still put together a great package without those three.

That is what sounds like.  If the Orioles trade for other pitchers such as Garrett or Keller, Getz may get his "wish" and not trade Cease.
