They are going to attempt to pass him through waivers and stash him in Norfolk for organizational depth.  Don’t expect one of our ML corner infielders to be traded anytime soon.

Looks like a move to just let people know you are working.  Kind of like the email you send to the boss on your work from home day to make it look like you’re actually working and nit just reading Orioles hangout all day.

Guys… we didn’t have a lot of 1B coverage at Norfolk,especially considering that Mayo and Kjerstad could be in Baltimore or playing another position.

That was my first impression too….Nevin getting the Lewin Diaz treatment. But if the Orioles needed to pay for Nevin then I imagine there’s enough interest around the league that he may not make it through waivers.

Lester replacement.  Diaz couldn't play 3B.

Out of options.  Never been  outrighted so if he gets through waivers he has to take the assignment to Norfolk.
