How about Hader?

It’s too early, but maybe not.

what chance we could work a deal for Hader?

it would be pretty fascinating to see Mike dealing with the guy he used to work for.

No chance. Not a good idea. He’s been really bad this year. That contract is not something the O’s should consider taking on.

If we are going to trade (at the deadline NOT in April) the priority will probably need to be SP.

disagree with this - we NEED another very good bullpen arm ! That will be the priority ! maybe we get both a starter and reliever but we NEED a bullpen arm sooner rather than later

No one of any consequence is getting traded in April and most likely not even May. We are going to cycle through different bp arms for a while to see if anything sticks. If/when we get closer to the deadline and the middle relief is still a problem, then you will see a move.

Hader is going to be fine.

1) Houston is not going to panic and trade a guy they signed to a 5-year, $95 million contract
2) No way would Elias trade for a reliever signed to a 5-year contract like that.

The reason I suggested it is because the Astros are terrible, and the front office is smart, they know what to expect from the season.

Hader has too good a track record for his current struggles to be anything serious, and he’s only 30. Not on the decline just yet.

We can certainly afford the contract, and taking it on would make it possible for us to add a proven reliever without sacrificing too much prospect capital.

The negotiation chess match would be fascinating as well.

it’s a little soon, but it’s never too early to start thinking about the future.

It's early but they are worth keeping an eye on. If they are out of the running in July, I could see them making a pivot toward a retool. If they could move Hader's contract, they could always redeploy the savings and bring in someone of similar value to plug his hole.

I think #2 would be the bigger obstacle for the Orioles. Verlander might be the better fit.
