McKenna hit a couple of HR's to help us win a couple of games. I kinda miss losing him.  I thought he was a good bench player instead of Kjerstadt or Stowers. I wish we designated Urias instead of McKenna.

Urias is a way, way better player than McKenna. There's no convincing argument you can possibly make using facts and statistics that would prove otherwise.

Right, Urias has shown he can be a starter and would get claimed immediately.

Guy I was responding to was being purely reactionary and doesn't care about talent or career production. He was overreacting to both McKenna's 2 fluke home runs, and Urias's slow start this season.

Urias is an actual gold glove winner, while McKenna is only a good defender in the minds of Hyde and Elias - McKenna has actually killed the Orioles with his glove/arm/routes in his limited appearances. Urias has a long track record of slightly above average offensive production, which makes him a valuable player considering he's a good defender. McKenna is a terrible overall hitter and the stats reflect that. His glove isn't worth platooning him on the bench, or even a roster spot.

The way the outfield is hitting right now Hays can’t get here fast enough.  Cowser struggling, Santander huts few homers here and there but that it and Mullins looks the worst of all 3.

The amount of bile directed at McKenna is ridiculous IMO.  We won all three games he started, and were 7-2 in the games in which he played.  He had two homers, a single and a walk in 9 PA.  Admittedly he didn’t get to two fly balls that might have been caught and made a poor throw home in the Nats game.  He also made a 3-star, 55% probability catch that several of our outfielders probably wouldn’t have gotten to.

In short, I don’t mind that he was DFA and if he gets claimed I won’t lose any sleep over it.  I just see no reason to vilify the guy.

Besides the guy who said he prayed everyday that McKenna is off the team, perhaps you can point us to the "amount of bile directed at McKenna?" I see most people discussing his merits, whether he will be taken or not, or whether he might be better off in the KBO.

Unless you believe saying that you hope he's claimed is "ridiculous amounts of bile" or "vilifying him." This seems to be a JLC-level over reaction and an over simplification of the actual comments made in this thread IMHO.

Second this Frobby. I think McKenna has made a valuable contribution to the O's this year and especially last year. Don't understand at all the negativity

I’m sure it’s Spakman’s remark that set me off: “Literally been praying every single second to the God of my choice that someone takes him away from the Orioles organization.”  But just generally, I don’t hope that our players get claimed when they’re DFA.   When you say that, you’re saying that having the player in the organization is worse than not having him.  I don’t buy it.  I also didn’t like the remarks (in previous threads, not this one) suggesting that McKenna misjudging a fly ball was due to some character flaw on his part.

It has been clear that there is a faction of this board and the Os fan base in general that have an over the top dislike for McKenna.

I think we found McKenna's burner account.

My problem with McKenna (Ryan, not Brian lol) is that he isn't what he is supposed to be. Maybe that is not his fault but, he hasn't made any adjustments to his game. I don't know if he goes into lala land in the outfield or what. But he often takes bad routes and he continues to make one handed catches off the the glove side while on his back foot. You'd think after the drop in Boston that he would have learned his lesson and made the adjustment but he hasn't. Another thing that bothers me (again, not his fault) but he seems to find his way into a lot of media stories or segments. I really don't care what Ryan McKenna thinks of our prospects. I don't care that he was with HK when he got the call this year. I don't care that he missed out on both celebrations last year. I am sure he is a great teammate and person. I'm tired of him being hyped as a speed/defense guy when he really doesn't play that level of defense consistently. He was fine when they sucked but they can and should do better now.

I don't dislike McKenna. I just don't think he is the type of 5th OF that should be on a WS contender. And I feel like I am being gaslighted by people, media telling me he is.

For me the guys I don't want to see playing in the MLB, I hope they get claimed.   I don't like McKenna.  When he's on the roster he gets playing time,  but he isn't good enough to really deserve it.   While Kjerstad and now Stowers rot on the bench,  McKenna gets into games for his defense, then he subsequently drops balls,  takes bad routes and/or doesn't appear to have his head in the game,  or he gets to pinch run, then promptly overslides the base,  resulting in an out.  The only way to ensure he isn't on the Os is to get him out of the organization, so that's my hope.

I realize that not everyone in the lineup or on the roster is going to be a superstar.  But if you are on the team for your defensive,  then,  I dunno, be a good defender.  Or if you are there to be a force on the basepaths, then don't make dumb outs while stealing.

Every team has guys like him. It’s a false narrative to pretend they don’t.

No one said anything close to this. It's also a false narrative to say that they we (fans) should just accept it without discussing our opinions on a message board.
