Yankees lose.   Chance to pull within a game tonight!

Big at bat in the 8th, 4-1 game, Yankees got bases loaded with no one out.  Finnegan, the closer came in, got Judge to hit into a DP and Stanton to pop out.   Finnegan gave up 1 in the 9th and the tie run came up but he got out of it for an old fashioned 2 inning save.

Or we ould be ahead of the Yankees by Friday.   We still haven't lost more than 2 in a row since July, but every series there are doomsayers on here saying we are about to be swept or lose 4 in a row or lost 5 in a row.   I just don't understand the quitter mentality of a significant number of our fans.

Quitters and whiners.  They obviously weren't here in 2019 and 2021 when real fans had to cheer for the likes of Rio Ruiz and Travis Lakins and our star Trey Mancini.

Barnes got the double play after falling behind 3-1 in count to Judge.  Finnegan then got final out of Stanton.

Cleveland has their Ace Tanner Bibee going this afternoon to try and stop the bleeding as the Royals go for what would be an impressive 4-game road sweep.

Bibee I was reminded recently did the Adley Rutschman Scenario, converting a 2023 partial season into a 2nd place RoY finish and earning 1.000 service time.

Paul Skenes challenging to make it 3 years in a row for the players, as MLB and the MLBPA gain more view how some of the mechanisms this CBA are playing out.

2 of first three batters homer for KC in top first; Cleveland just reeling right now.  Good for KC, I predicted in April after we played them that they would win the Central, and they certainly have a shot to do so.

I feel exactly the opposite about the likely Central Division winner. One of us will probably be right.

It is getting going time if the Mariners have a run - this afternoon J.P. Crawford is back from his hand fracture sustained a few days before the Randy Arozarena get.

First lineup with Crawford, Julio, Raleigh, Arozarena up top, though all of those stars from recent years are having poor seasons.

Watching that game now.  Anyone who gets frustrated at our offense should sit and watch Seattle.  Man these guys just cannot hit.

Nationals are still in a good position up 5-2 with three outs to get, but Joey Gallo, baserunner on 2nd base, just managed to turn a runners on 1st and 2nd, batter hits the ball over Aaron Judge's head into a double play for the Yankees.

That was brutal to watch. Reminds me of the 2019-21 Orioles.

That was tee ball league baserunning.  Gallo was tagging and other guy was right behind him but you have to just give up out and go 2nd and 3rd 1 out at worse.

    • Rain out tonight, wet fields…as JR said, it’s possible they just don’t send him to AAA.
    • Interesting that no lineup is out yet. Makes you wonder if they are trying to figure out Urias.
    • And btw, Elias is also putting out the possibility that GRod doesn’t pitch again this year.
    • Very dismayed that we're trying to win this season with unproven players like Holliday and Mayo plugging gaps. Very glad to have picked up Rivera  (+151 OPS as an Orioles) and Slater has a much-needed .354 OBP, plays a reassuringly fine LF, and is a good baserunner. I hope that the defensively versatile, LH-batting Livan Soto proves to be yet another surprise--his limited MLB stats show it's possible.
    • He had several hard hit balls in Boston, not all for hits. Including one to RF that would have been a HR nearly anywhere else.
    • I've always been an Urías fan, even during the fall-off in home runs last season. The defensive versatility, strong reverse-split stats (105+ vs. RHP, 90 vs. LHP), ability to make contact according to the game situation, and sneaky power. Loved the 2020-22 seasons he had with us and so was mystified at how quickly some people were ready to bail on him.
    • So I’ve been puzzling why the defending international League/AAA Champion Norfolk Tides (90-59 in the 2023 regular season) have struggled so much this year (66-78 with a week to play).   Is it the fact that most of last year’s top hitters are either out of the organization or spending large chunks of time in the majors?   Maybe a little, but that’s not the main reason.   Simply put, last year the Tides allowed the fewest runs in the league (0.64 runs/game below league average), and this year they’re allowing the most runs/game in the league (0.43 runs/game above league average).   That’s 1.07 runs per game worse than last year, relative to the league average. Even then, it’s a little hard to pin down. The Tides have principally relied on six starters who’ve made 107 starts, and five of the six have been solid to above average.  The only exception has been Justin Arbrueater, who leads the team with 25 starts and 112 IP, but has a brutal 7.75 ERA.  The other five sit between 3.32 and 4.34, in a league where 4.84 ERA is average.   Interestingly, the major league starters who’ve pitched rehab games did terribly there for the most last. Means 6 starts at 8.68 ERA, Kremer 3 starts at 11.42, Bradish 2 starts at 5.40.   Lots of other guys who made 2-4 starts did poorly.   Bullpen guys who’ve been particularly bad at include Kade Stroud (7.11 ERA in 35 games), Nick Vespi (7.36 in 27 games), Wandisson Charles (8.42 in 25 games, and Kaleb Ort (12.08 in 14 games).   Carlos Tavera pitched a mix of starts and relief appearances to a 7.47 ERA. Overall, it’s been a tough year for the Tides staff even though several starting pitchers had solid seasons.
