Serious question: how hard is it to consciously hit for a single instead of for the fences?

That requires intentionally using less power and making the mental adjustment to the pitch.

Thats probably really hard right?

Shorten the swing. Choke on the bat.

It's not about adjusting to hit for less power.   You should not be swinging for a home run in the first place.   You should be swinging to hit a hard line drive by keeping your bat somewhat level through the strike zone.  Home runs come more by hitting the lower half of the ball while hitting it hard,  than by trying to hit a home run.

Cowser is so worthless, what a joke this guy is gonna win ROY. By default.

I think we have been spoiled with the quality of the rookies in the league the past few years.

His numbers probably aren't that bad compared to the average RoY winner.

Choking up means holding the bat higher for a shorter arc, right?

But I’m asking about deliberately using less power to not swing for the fence but to just get it beyond the infield into that enormous patch of grass where no one is.
