I didn't see it posted anywhere else. If so, go ahead and delete this post.

Joe Vallegia, the 42nd round pick, is a hometown kid. He was a superstar at Calvert Hall.

He's a catcher, bigger than Wieters believe it or not. At 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, he's a monster with some serious raw power. I have to do some research in order to find out why he only played in 20 games this season. He only had 64 at bats, but in that limited sample he hit 4 home runs, 4 doubles and batted .281.

He's a redshirt sophomore, and a local kid so I hope he signs. He may not stay behind the plate. I'd like to see him moved to first base where he can concentrate on developing his obvious huge power potential.

It seems like Jordan went with more high schoolers in this draft than in his previous drafts. Hopefully he feels that he can sign these guys because a few of them are pretty interesting.

I like Aaron Wirsch, Garrett Bush, Michael Ohlman, and Jarrett Martin in the top 20 rounds. I hope we find a way to land these guys plus a few others. I like Cameron Coffey as well despite his injury. Also, CF Kyle Hoppy and LHP Matt Nadolski sound like great young men, and they would add a lot to our system.

EDIT:

I'd just like to add, based on BA's ratings, I'd say that Jordon did a pretty good job. Hobgood (40), Givens (46), Randy Henry (195), Ashur Tolliver (102), Ryan Berry in the 9th round (113), and Jake Cowan in the 10th (133).

This is so odd. In the 28th round the Orioles selected Kyle Hoppy, OF from Orchard Park NY. He just so happened to graduate from the same High School as me. I don't really know him, but I know he is a star football (qb) and baseball player. I believe he was all-state in both.

He has a full ride scholarship offer to Bucknell and this draft option from the Orioles. I don't know how these things work, like if he decides to go to college when can he re-enter the draft, but what a great thing, a kid that my sister is graduating with in two weeks, and that i went to High School with was just drafted by my favorite MLB team.

That's cool for you!

If he goes to a 4 year college, like Bucknell, he can enter the draft again after his junior year.

It's probably too hard to predict, but I sometimes wonder if the ole' "hey, we're going to have 50 guys hit FA at the same time' approach drives a greater interest in high schoolers - who obviously take more time to develop.

I certainly hope not - but what do I know - I'm a lowly poster...

Or his freshman year or sophomore year if he turns 21 within 90 days of the draft.

Ah, you're right of course.

According to Schmuck he just turned 18 (May 91 birthday) so it would seem to be after his junior year, if he doesn't sign...
