If Harper and Taillon go 1 and 2, would Cox be a good pick at 3?

I'll reply to the question this way... maybe.

I like Cox, but do have real concerns about his ability to hit for power. He is a very good prospect, but I'd be disappointed were Joe Jordan to take Cox. The main reason is that I believe there would be better players on the board.

Who would you go with if those two are gone? I'm not a fan of what I've heard about Pomeranz. Is Machado a possibility?

Anyone know anything about this kid, Tony Wolters? Any chance he is around in round 3? Speaking of that i really hate not having a 3rd rounder.

The other guy i really really like is Hunter Morris 1B from Auburn.

I would be estatic if he lasted to round 3.

Machado would be my pick. I also like Colon, Whitson, Covey, and Allie as well. Pomeranz is 12th on my list, just after Zack Cox. Cox is one player that I have a feeling will wind up inside my Top Ten somewhere. I'm not sure about the power potential, and for a 3B'man, it's an important tool. My instincts tell me he'll be a 15 HR per year hitter. That's not bad, but coupled with a .300+ hit tool, he could be a very solid pro.

I really like Wolters, but I'd be surprised to find him available in R3. Morris has good power, but questions about his ability to hit pro pitching have me concerned. R3 would be good value either way.

    • You should totally sue them. What gall they have to kinda, sorta imply that their baseball replays are accurate to the tenths of a second when they might not actually be that. That's exactly what leads to distrust of all institutions, chaos, revolution, and then we're living in some kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape, boiling our own shoes for the meager nutrition in the leather.
    • I think I used elite a little too loosely. Still, not a ton of hitters do better than 1:2 over a full season.
    • Baumeister threw 4.2 scoreless innings last night, 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts.  He pounded the strike zone, throwing 49 strikes in 71 pitches.   In 14 innings spanning 4 outings, he’s got a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 1.8 K/BB.  The walks have been high, 10 in 14 innings, but not crazy high for a guy just getting his feet wet.  Decent start for Baumeister.
    • I always thought that if you weren't around 10:1 you weren't trying hard enough.
    • Adley was a nearly finished product when picked, if not for tradition and service time stuff he could have been in the majors shortly after he left college. Gunnar needed 1000+ minor league plate appearances as a high school pick. Ask this same question about the 1990-2017 Orioles with their development system. They certainly could have found a way to screw up Gunnar, would have been harder with Adley.
    • I don’t think it was weird at all.  EDC said it but I thought it unfolded as expected.  You knew the QBs would go. You knew tons of OT and WR would go.   This was always going to be an offense dominated first round. The Oline and WR depth is in every round. I suspect that they go Oline twice or Oline/WR tonight.  Obviously you never know how the board falls but I think that’s what is likely.   This is mainly going to be an offense draft. EDC said a few weeks ago that they will draft a RB.  My guess is that the RB goes sometime in day 3. They will come out of this draft with at least 2 more Olineman, one WR and one RB.  I suspect they take a safety at some point as well. The question will be do they take 9 players.  The Ravens didn’t feel this was a draft with as many draftable players as years past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they make some kind of a trade.
    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.
