I'd say he more or less hotdogged it.

Like trying to make the throw look more difficult than it shd have been? And what did Andino have to do with it? (Sorry to ask so many Qs--no TV down here.)

He could have stood on 2nd and stretched for the throw, or made a quicker movement to get back to the bag.

But, you can pin that one on Jones, and his lolligagging. Get up and throw the ball back like you want to win.

OK, thanks.

How did Andino screw up?

1. Jones made the poor throw.

2. Andino needs to realize that he loses nothing if he flat out drops or misses the throw while trying to hold onto second. If he stretches and holds onto the bag while catching it, it is a double-play.

3. Andino seemed to not be athletically balanced throughout that play. If he catches the ball while on the balls of his feet, imho, he can tap the bag before the runner fully retreats.

They were both bad on the play. If Jones straightened up more and made a decent throw the runner was likely toast. If the throw was the same, but Andino had stood very close to second and stretched, he should have been able to make the quick half-step stab over to the bag and beat the runner. In an instance where there are two fielders and the play would have had the desired result had merely one of them done his job correctly, naturally both fielders screwed up.

Meanwhile, Markakis gets his 1,000th hit. Good stuff.
