If the A's win today to clinch the West and we force a game 163 tonight, this will be one of the craziest days in MLB history.. maybe only topped by last year.

This is crazy, but last year was definitely crazier. Boston was completely out as a result of Bob Dino's hit. Members of AL field are already set.

The eventual champion Cards also got into the playoffs on the last day of the season too. Still though, hard to think of two consecutive years where it's been down to the wire like this.

This isn't a Rangers or A's board. Nobody want to hear any BS about our O's losing especially before the game is even over.

I understand. I also don't want to hear doom and gloom about how we definitely aren't winning the division either. (I recognize this thread isn't stating that but other threads are)

It's tough. Oakland's line up doesn't scare me as much as Texas but as many of you have pointed out Darvish is superior to who the A's would put out. I want the game at home in Baltimore. That much I do know.

Yeah definitely. How awesome would that be, playoff game at CAMDEN!

We need home field more against the A's because the Coliseum would suppress our HRs. On the other hand, if Saunders starts against the A's, it might be better for him to start at the Coliseum. Personally, I still want it to be at Camden.

Texas looking sloppy lately. Hopefully we won't have to play them in the WC. Not to say I expect a tie tonight, but this season has showed me how completely wrong I have been before in my expectations.

I always say don't give up hope until there's no more hope left to give up.

Yeah there is that too, regarding Saunders. A's just got another run.

The key against Texas is really to prevent that big inning. They live by the crooked number.

Make Darvish throw pitches b/c their bullpen isn't that good.

They're beatable.

    • To say Mayo is more major league ready than Holliday is a stretch.  Based on what?  36 AB's at the major league level for Holliday?  Mayo may or may not have the same struggles up here as Holliday, Gunnar Henderson, Nick Markakis, or Cal Ripken did.  Maybe he won’t either but no one here knows even if they have watched every one of Mayo’s at bats.  This team is 23-11 so the people making the decisions are doing a pretty good job.  Fans always want the shiny new potential player over the seasoned veterans but the baseball people seem to value whatever the intangibles that players like Mateo, Urias, McKenna, etc bring to a 26 man squad.  I would agree more with the shiny new player on a team that isn’t having success.  That is not this team.
    • Oh I know all about Disco Demolition night. Disco's popularity was at its absolute nadir. It ended horribly.   You do not want to focus Taylor Swift fans ire upon yourself.  I got hit by a Swiftie drive by once and ended up going viral on social media. You don't want that heat.
    • Weird but as @eddie83 mentioned, the two off days is just an odd consequence of the 2x2 structure of facing your assigned interleague rival. Looking at some other teams' schedules, the Mets have a similar situation later this year around two Yankees games, the Giants have a similar situation around two Athletics games, etc. Some teams have an oddity the O's don't which is a Sunday off-day after a Fri/Sat two game series with their regional rival.
    • As long as you have the right amount each of 2 and 4 series, you’re still good.  Two and four is the same as 3 and 3.    Wont happen anyway but I would love it if it did.
    • Agree with the premise of the OP. Holliday should be converted to CF because Westburg is a good defender at both 2B and 3B. Holliday is average at 2B at best.  As it stands right now, Holliday doesn't have a place on the major league team this season because Mayo is more major league ready, and the team needs another righty bat to balance the lineup. It's simply not sustainable to keep trotting out Mateo and McKenna, no matter how hot or lucky they are right now against LHP.  It's in Holliday's best interests to learn and start playing CF as well because CF is a much more premium defensive position, and a glamor position when it comes to his first free agent contract/extension.  If future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts can move around the diamond to accomodate his team and win games, so can Holliday. I'm not saying Holliday is a future Hall of Famer, but there's no excuse for not converting him to a new position that will help the team.
    • 27 weeks × 6 days is 162.  So it's doable in theory but the existence of 2 and 4 game series makes it challenging in practice.
    • I lived it as a kid of the 70's.  lol  What a glorious time to be a kid!  I like that Rubes doesn't seem to take himself too seriously and has fun with his "toy."  Like Bill Veeck clearly did. Disco Demolition was a disaster, of course, but I mention it as a joke that maybe was lost on CoC.  Maybe we could do a Free Beer Night too. I have not seen Saint of Second Chances, but I do, generally, subscribe to the motto, that, "...if it gets you arrested, you've gone too far." hahaha  The trailer looks sensational and as an imperfect dad, I endeavor to watch it by the weekend.  Thanks for the recommendation.  Cheers!
