Why do people take pleasure in ripping on this guy? Before his injuries he was one of the most beloved players in Baltimore. Yes, he hasn't earned his keep during this contract. Does that make him a bad guy where people want to be correct and that he won't have good numbers? I don't get it.

Let me walk you through it:

1. He cheated (PED's)

2. He signed a large contract.

3. He injured himself in a non baseball temper tantrum (steroid rage??)

4. He returned no value for the large 4 year contract.

5. He returned to his starting position supplanting a younger and more talented (IMHO) player based on his past success that is now over 4 years ago.

6. He has never played on a winning team and whether that is a jinx or a voodoo curse the Orioles are going to go under .500 since his return, when they were playing .565 ball without him.

lol What a totally ridiculous strawman. A 1.000 OPS wouldn't earn him accolades from everybody on the board? What would they be flaming him from, hogging all the RBIs?

The anti-BRob campaign has made some pretty odd arguments. If roberts put up a 1.000 OPS but most of those hits came in orioles losses or when the bases were empty, they would absolutely keep on him. Note the so-called B-Rob effect referenced in this very thread.

Well then maybe I am not really one of his critics although I got into a huge fight this offseason because I thought he'd be terrible and his fans didn't like that, BUT, if he had a 1.000 OPS, I'd be pretty ecstatic. I'm not even sure how you could OPS 1.000 and not have some of those at-bats matter.

1.He admitted to a single instance. So you dont believe him. Thats your right.

2. Damn, do you want him to play for free. So what he signed for market value, so did Glen Davis and Albert Belle.

3. For crying out loud. Really?

4. Sad, but its not the first time in sports this has happened.

5. Some would argue that Ryan had able opportunity and wasn't getting the job done. This is probably the only real debatable comment you posted.

6. ROTFLMAO. Seriously, do you really believe this, this is just pure middle school stuff.

Yep this is just a corollary to and more evidence of the dreaded BRob effect.

He has never participate in an Orioles team with a winning record

The Orioles record in games that BRob has played in this year: 19-17

I have no doubt that the O's will be under .500 in games that Brian Roberts plays this year as they have in every single year in his illustrious career.

Boy what a post. You really are against Roberts.

Wow. Okay dude. I won't even comment on this.

Don't forget to kick the dog too on your way out.

I agree with you. It is almost like they enjoy bashing Roberts.

It is too bad you don't use facts to get your point over.

There's a difference between being a critic and having an agenda you refuse to deviate from. I'm a Roberts critic, I wish we'd give Flaherty the job vs RHP and start Roberts vs LHP - but if Roberts OPS is 1.000 from here on out I'll build a statue to Brian Roberts in my front yard and polish it with a toothbrush daily. There are some posters on here that never change their tune - but I think for the most part posters here have a strong take - but if the evidence mounts to persuade them their take is wrong - they are more than happy to revise their opinion. Anyone adult taking time from their day to post on an Orioles message board in the end wants what's best for the team - and Brian Roberts OPSing 1.000 would be very good for the team indeed.

Only problem with starting Brob vs lefties is the fact that he is a much weaker righthanded hitter. I've often thought Brian should only bat leftie. Man can he swing it from the left side. He does look much better this year batting rightie though.

In short, frustration over the unpredictability of his recovery time coupled with the amount of budget taken up by his contract and unable to be used elsewhere. I totally get that and have shared the frustration at times. The vocal and strident animosity some posters have for him baffles me however, it's way out of scale. He's given a lot to the organization and deserves to be considered in a much better light. I'm happy to see him having some success and hope it continues.

Roberts over his last four games: .500/.500/.688/1.188

Roberts in the 31 game prior to the hot streak: .231/.277/.333/.611

Roberts since 2011: .229/.277/.320/.597

Which one looks closer to reality? I'm glad Roberts is hitting well, and I hope he continues to do so, but I think we'll see him regress back to the player he is at this stage in his career soon enough. BTW, his lack of range last night might have cost us. He was playing up the middle and the ball was not really hit that hard. Both Flaherty and Casilla probably knocks that down. The Orioles may still have lost on the next play but goes to show that his lack of range hurts the team at times.

    • No hitter through 6.  1 walk,  11 strikeouts but pitch count is around 100.  Will they bring him out for the 7th (Pirates lead 8-0)?
    • Means vs. Miller (3-3, 2.66 ERA) ? vs. Castillo (4-5, 3.31 ERA) ? vs. Kirby (4-3, 3.58 ERA) Miller faced the O’s twice last year, allowing 3 runs in 4.1  IP the first time, 2 runs (1 ER) in 5.2 the second time.   Castillo allowed 1 run in 6 IP when we saw him in 2023.  Kirby faced us twice, allowing 3 runs (2 ER) in 6.1 innings the first time, and pitching a complete game, 3 hit shutout the second time, in which he faced only two batters over the minimum.    The O’s haven’t named their starters for Saturday and Sunday.  Irvin and Kremer are our most rested starters, but  Burnes also would be available by Sunday, and there has been talk that Grayson Rodriguez could be activated without a rehab appearance.   The Mariners are averaging 3.82 runs per game, 23rd in MLB, though they’re better on the road at 4.21 runs/game.  They have a 98 OPS+, 17th in MLB.  Their top hitters this year have been Josh Rojas (134 OPS+),  Cal Raleigh (120 OPS+, 10 HR, 24 RBI), Luke Raley (118 OPS+) and Dylan Moore (104 OPS+).  Julio Rodriguez has been quiet so far at 91 OPS+.   Seattle’s bullpen has the 8th best ERA in baseball at 3.27, slightly topped by the Orioles’ 3.23.   Our old friend Austin Voth has been a mainstay for the Mariners, posting a 3.12 ERA and 1.039 WHIP in 17.1 IP.  Andres Muñoz has been an effective closer, posting a 1.47 ERA with 11.8 K/9, saving 7 against 1 blown save.    With the Seattle starters and bullpen and relatively mediocre offense, and the O’s recent offensive slump and strong pitching, this figure as a low-scoring series, but we’ll see.
    • Broadcast gun had Paul Skenes at 100 on pitch 100 as he notched his 11th strikeout wrapping up 6 no-hit innings. Pirates bullpen under the gun to continue it if they can.
    • O'Hearn's statcast percentile bars are insane.  He's not swinging at balls out of the zone, he's squaring up everything, and he rarely whiffs.  I don't think I've ever seen a guy look this bad through his mid-20s and then flip a switch at 29/30.
    • I like the Smashburgers from Baseline Burgers, and also the tacos at Vida Taco Bar.
    • No hitter through 5.  1 walk,  10 K's on 81 pitches versus the Cubbies.  Not too shabby.
