I'm not sure why you're struggling with this so much.

For you to sit here arguing that Bedard will be better than Hill in 2008 does very little to address the trade issue, which is what you accused others of being ignorant about in the first place.

It's perfectly consistent to believe Bedard will have better stats than Hill (although that's debateable, and at least one projection model disagrees), but still not want to trade Hill for Bedard. Hill is younger, cheaper, under team control for two additional years, doesn't have an injury history, and, as I showed, was the better pitcher at the same age and stage of development.

The fact that it's even open for debate which guy will be better in 2008 tells you that trading Hill for Bedard is a stupid move, considering all of the other factors I just listed in Hill's favor.

The Orioles aren't as fortunate as the Cubs in that our Major league postion talent other than Roberts & Markakis & Maybe Scott pretty much bites the big 1.

Most every Orioles fan here is tired of the losing. Giving up Bedard, Roberts & anyone else that other teams might value will increase our chances of being repectable considerably in a few years. Keeping Bedard, Roberts Etc, and adding to the scrap heap just continues that downward trend. And dont look now but the D-Rays are loaded with young talent as they have been so bad for so long not too mention trading their veterans. The Orioles haven't yet hit rock bottom ...But IMO this is likely the year we end up below Tampa. I can live with that if the outlook improves drastically. Mcphail believe's they need this as well or he wouldn't be talking about trading these guys!

If I were a expansion Team in the AL I if my choice were Bedard or Hill my choice would be Bedard. I agree the injury history is a concern but for a team in the AL so are the 27 HR's.

Well according to a guy who's Mom is a travel agent for the M's - Jones and 2 others have been given plane tickets to leave for Baltimore immediately. No idea who the other two are as she just did Jones' ticket. Perhaps today we will finally hear an announcement?

Do you have a link to where you heard this? Because I believe Jones is still in Venezuela...

there are a couple of sites now like seattle times forum who are talking about the plane tickets too so it seems to be legit. Im guessing the mariners wanted to be able to announce the move at fanfest today.

I dont get why they would be coming to baltimore unless it was for physicals.

Wow. Major rep if this turns out to be true. (Even if you do think that Triunfel = Markakis. :D)

Some huge news folks... [sun Jan 27, 2008 9:09 am]

This source is very accurate by the way, she does travel for the M's players, and she has told me about 3 days ahead of time when Carlos Silva got signed, when we signed Washburn, and also way back in the day when we hired Melvin to be our manager.

So accoriding to this source, Adam Jones and two other players have received plane tickets to go to Baltimore immediately. I do not know the other players but Adam Jones for sure.

There is a deal in the works that is very close to being finalized.

So this could be for the physicals...

    • Fangraphs credits him with 2.1 fWAR at 3B and 1.7 at SS, so that’s 3.8 so far (it’s possible they might have him dabbling at DH once in a while, we’ll see).  At SS, the O’s ranked 18th at 3.4 fWAR, with Mateo and Henderson splitting time roughly 60/40.  Fangraphs comments: “This playing time projection is the numerical equivalent of throwing your hands up in the air. Henderson looks bound for stardom, be it at third or shortstop, but Mateo is still holding on to the position for now after a solid defensive year established him as the everyday starter. His offensive numbers are downright ugly – that .284 projected wOBA is the second-lowest for anyone in this article with 100 or more PAs – but you can get away with that kind of bat at shortstop if your glove is transcendent. “In 2022, Mateo’s was, but he’d never flashed that level of defense before, so Orioles talent evaluators will have their work cut out for them early in the year. Henderson will likely start the season at third base, but if Mateo’s defense looks shaky, the team should make the switch sooner rather than later. Those offensive numbers next to Henderson’s name are no joke — think Corey Seager, if you’re looking for a parallel as an offense-first lefty shortstop. 2023 is just the start of Baltimore’s plan for contention, but what they do at shortstop will have ramifications for both this year and the future.” https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-positional-power-rankings-shortstop/
    • What I've been seeing overall is that a lot of fans were more engaged with the WBC than with their regular team this spring. Just yesterday I was talking to someone who had gone to the games in Miami and were raving about the experience.
    • I hadn’t really started the WBC poll with this in mind, but so far it appears that many more OH members tuned into the WBC than have tuned in to O’s spring training games.   Considering the composition of the audience, and the frequent complaints about the paucity of O’s spring training broadcasts, that’s not necessarily the outcome I would have expected.
    • It's only Spring Training, but....... I'm getting pretty amped up for some baseball.
    • Either I’m going crazy or there was a glitch on baseball reference that day. No wonder I thought was amazing!
    • But Urias’ knee is was an issue. Hope it isn’t an issue in season.    We have a good “problem” on our hands. I don’t think it’s prudent to bring Westburg up unless he’s playing 4+ days a week.    I can see Elias’ thinking with Frazier. We needed an insurance policy if Urias wasn’t good to go, or God forbid that that Mullins gets hurt and Frazier could lead off.  It’s looking like we should trade Mateo, but there is little market, then play Gunnar at SS, with Westburg as basically a starting 3rd/4th IF. We need a Mateo buyer.
    • No, it’s amortizing. Once the 7 years is up, if we have not re-fi’ed, our rate goes to what it is at that time.    I tend to doubt we will see interest rates get below the 4.375 was have but if we can get back to 5 or lower at any point, I will probably re-if early even if it means a little higher rate than we have now in the short term to insure we are ok long term.
