No.

Basic save situations:

-- you come in the game with a 3 run or less lead and pitch at least one inning and finish the game without ever letting the other team tie or take the lead

-- you come in the game with the tie run on deck or at bat or on base at any time and finish the game

without ever letting the other team tie or take the lead

-- you come in with ANY lead (even 20 runs) and pitch at least 3 innings and finish the game without ever letting the other team tie or take the lead

It's actually tying run is in the hole, which is where the three runs comes into play...because if you come in to start the 9th with a 3 run lead, then automatically the tying run is in the hole...hence the reason a save can be earned with a 3 run lead or less...

9-5, Rays.

With two outs and nobody on base in the 8th, the Rays hit a double, a home run, a single, a wild pitched, another RBI-single ...... and then they hit Longoria with the first pitch. The Rays are not happy about that.

AND, they just hit ANOTHER batter !!!

Love it when the Yankees implode even if it is against another division rival. They've always been the team I hate most so that's always fun to see.

No it isn't.

It's the tying run on deck... with ANY time left in the game (even just one out).

Or 3 runs or more for ONE FULL INNING.

Just like I said.

The Yankee pitcher (Cesar Cabral) hit 3 Rays in one inning while they were pounding him.

Evan Longoria, James Loney, and Logan Forsythe.
