Sorry, but watching the video is not good. The Orioles are the Patriots of MLB. You will not get a straight answer right away. The angle the knee bent looks like a MCL tear or the same ligament he tore in the left knee. Often a genetical defect happens bilaterally. I am thinking first glance that may be it.

What about Christian Walker for 1st and Davis at 3rd?

Am I wrong by suggesting that it would probably be a week before we get the true answer? I'm assuming that for a good MRI reading the inflammation has to go down. That could take a few days. What good would an MRI do tomorrow?

I remember last year when Davis' knee buckled in Anaheim, I believe it was. Everyone assumed it was a major injury and he'd be out for the year. He missed 1 game.

Just saying, no need to jump off the bridge yet. Just because an injury looks bad doesn't mean it is.

Good way to look at it. Hope you're right.

Genetics can play a role but its a huge leap to say that. There are usually chondral or tibial-subchondral defects and abnormalities in those patients that can be seen on MRI. Those type of patients also usually demonstrate some degree of increased laxity (movement) in the joints. Its possible but with his knee injury last year I would suspect the O's were smart enough to cover some of those bases. More likely a result of bad luck or in some cases while rehabbing one knee, the limitations that puts on conditioning the other can have some effect.

I believe Davis just tweaked his knee stepping on the base and he was able to hop around.

Machados knee complete twisted and bent with his weight pressing down..which most likely means an MCL tear.

I am not trying to be all gloom and doom but this is not going to be just a few days rest.

I don't think it will be a few days rest either. I'm also not going to assume it's a tear that will end his season.

If it is a complete tear that would show up more than likely. MCL, PCL, LCL and ACL are significantly larger than the UCL in the elbow (also the locaton is slightly less obstructed with the knee) and thus are usually generally more easily visualized. Swelling can impact visualization, not saying that but it is not uncommon for a MRI the day after to yield good results

I want to see De Jesus in the majors but he hasn't played much 3B.

Britton was tearing the cover off the ball at AA. They promoted him and he didn't hit at AAA, so they sent him back down.

Here are the fielding records for the Tides. Look at 3B.

Davis can play 3b though. Dejesus can backup SS while Flaherty platoons with Davis at 3b.

My point with Britton was: if they liked Cord their so much, they wouldn't have promoted Britton.

I'm praying for the best and hoping this is just a fluke. I will say that I was at the game when Manny got hurt in a Delmarva game. It didn't look like anything happened at all and then he was on the ground in awful pain. Hopefully just bad luck, but those knees don't inspire a ton of confidence. I wonder if he wears knee braces on both?

    • I think for me, Irvin has the hot hand and Bradish is just coming back. I would rather have Irvin ride it out until the wheels come off.
    • Mateo has exactly 7 at bats all season against righties. Which might be why he has potentially seemed to outplay Urias decisively.    Urias also has very little value as a bench player due to being slow and reverse splits when we have so many better left handed hitting options on the bench (kjerstad). So if you don’t start him vs righties now (where Mateo is a huge liability), then he doesn’t belong on the roster other than as a defensive replacement and nothing else.
    • This appears to be the “surrender“ lineup. I think it was Earl Weaver who said that the secret of managing was to put players in their best position for success(?) and O’Hearn in RF is not that. There’s no reason to sit Westburg, either.
    • We didn’t platoon them before because we had holiday or kemp up. Now that we have a true backup cf option and Mateo doesn’t have to be available as emergency cf (and one of them HAS to start every day with westburg and Gunnar the only other infielders), I fully expect to see a platoon anytime westburg and Gunnar are playing.    edit: agreed we tend to not utilize Urias for reverse splits, but that is partly because we have soooooooo many left handed options and no righties. Given the current roster makeup, they kind of have to platoon unless you just close your eyes and pick one each day. This is the first time I’m aware they’ve started Mateo against a righty, so I expect the platoon as long as holida is down (assuming no other infielders are called up or claimed)
    • I mean Stowers could have been traded if we had no plans to play him. He has lost his prospect stays now due to his age. It’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things because the org has an abundance of young talent. But it definitely sucks for him. Those guys only have so many years to maximize earning potential.
    • I hope Means will get stronger as the season goes along, but I can also see “nothing left” as a possibility too. Worst case, he will always have the no-hitter at Seattle.
    • Bradish is arguably our best starter if he is anything close to what he showed last year. Irvin has been great the last two times out, but I’d take my chances with a (seemingly) healthy Bradish over Irvin any day of the week.  You can argue that Bradish should be eased in, but I don’t think they’re worried about that for a guy that pitched in meaningful games last year and started game 1 of the playoffs. And while NYY are a solid offensive team, it’s not like they’re ATL, LAD, TEX, or us. With a guy like him, if he’s actually ready, he should pitch.
