2015 New York Mets

OFFNY

Boras and Harvey have decided that a 180 IP cap is appropriate.

They apparently didn't bother to inform the Mets of this fact before this week.

Harvey is at 166.3 innings and the Mets look to be a playoff team.

If I was with the Mets I would shut Harvey down immediately and stick him in the pen for the playoffs.

If I was a Mets fan I would stop with the Batman nonsense.

No way Batman would have an innings cap.

That would be an awesome outcome to the situation.

One sportswriter agrees with me.

I don't know if they will necessarily win their division this season, but they look good overall for the foreseen future.

Healthy David Wright and Pitching Depth will Lead the Mets to NL East Crown

(By Bill Madden)

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/madden-pitching-depth-lead-mets-nl-east-crown-article-1.2173540

A lot of people in the comments section chided Bill Madden for this article.

Madden's prognosis doesn't look so ridiculous now, although David Wright missed most of the season.

Bartolo Colon has a modest 16 consecutive shutout innings streak.

I say "modest" in comparison to Dodgers pitchers, both current (Kershaw and Greinke), and historically (Hershiser and Drysdale.)

Colon pitched a complete-game shutout tonight against the Marlins.

His streak of consecutive scoreless innings is now at 25.

27 OUTS: 10 Groundouts (including 2 Double Plays), 6 Lineouts (Including 1 Double Play), 4 Flyouts, 2 Strikeouts, 1 Foulout, 1 Popout

BARTOLO COLON O(vs. MARLINS, 9/05)

IP:. 9 O(COMPLETE-GAME SHUTOUT)

H:;; 9 l(1 Double, 8 Singles)

R:l) 0

BB: 0

SO: 2

Pitches: 100 (74 Strikes, 26 Balls)

2015 ERA: 4.18

Colon pitched 6 more shutout innings tonight before his streak was snapped.

31 consecutive scoreless innings.

The most ever by a pitcher over the age of 40.

Tied with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden for 2nd overall on the all-time Mets franchise list (1962-Present.)

JULY, 2013:

Between Wheeler, Harvey, Niese, and Gee, the Mets may have a solid young nucleus of starting pitchers in 2015 and beyond (Harvey may or may not be back next year, which is why I say 2015 and beyond.)

Harvey is already a young phenom, Wheeler is a highly touted rookie, and the 27 year-old Gee has pitched very well in 8 of his last 10 starts.

JULY, 2014:

With Harvey out until either late this season or the start of next season, the Metsies may still be a year away from really coming together, but I'm still pretty optimistic in terms of their rotation in the long-term.

Zack Wheeler, Matt Harvey, Jonathon Niese, and Dillon Gee.

And now they have 24 year-old Jenrry Mejia, who is off to a solid start (2-0 with a 2.81 E.R.A.) to start the 2014 season.

We'll see what happens.

APRIL, 2015 (The OP):

I've been touting the Mets and their young, talented starting pitchers since 2013.

It's a good thing that they signed Bartolo Colon to a TWO-YEAR CONTRACT before the start of the 2014 season because last year, Matt Harvey missed the entire season while continuing to recover from Tommy John Surgery ...... and now this year, Zack Wheeler will miss all of this season AND part of next season due to Tommy John Surgery.

My vision/foresight has come to fruition !!! :wedge:

The Mets officially clinched the N.L. East division this afternoon, and will be headed to the postseason for the first time since 2006.

Admittedly, the acquisition of Yoenis Cespedes on July 31st sent the Mets' offense into overdrive from the sputtering that it had been doing previously ...... but the backbone of the building of this team was based on the talented young pitching (and good defense) that I have been touting since 2013. Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Jonathon Niese ...... and of course, the two-year contract that veteran Bartolo Colon was signed to prior to the 2014 season turned out to be ideal because of the fact that two of their young guns (Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler) missed the entire 2014 and 2015 seasons respectively, due to having had Tommy John surgery.

There is more to the game of baseball than good pitching and good defense. But if you have both of them, they will go a long way toward growing a successful franchise. Before the Mets acquired Cespedes, they looked to be headed toward about an 86, 87, or 88-win season with excellent pitching, good defense, and an almost anemic offense. Adding Cespedes and his offense for the final 2 months of the season helped catapult them toward running away with the division.

Although Harvey was screwed by his defense in the 1st inning on the inside-the-park home run, he blew it in the 6th inning when his offense chipped away at Volquez and handed him a 2-run lead, which he was not able to hold.
