Though the doctoring is widespread, managers don’t like calling out opposing pitchers because so many of their own do the same thing.

Former A’s pitcher Dallas Braden went as far as saying his old team had an “application station” in spring training.

“Here, we tried to gain an advantage or at least put ourselves in a little bit better position to gain control,” Braden said Monday on ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight,” adding that he tapped pine tar on his arm, sprayed it with sunscreen and repeated it between innings.

“You can’t go out with just one dose. No, no, no. You have to reapply it. What I would do in between innings, I’d (look at) the lineup, check who my next victims are going to be, and I’d go into the bathroom and load up.”
