I think that's better than the idea of using 13 roster spots for the DH. Plus, you know that both Alvarez and Reimold would get some (maybe quite a bit) of time in the field. I was actually at a game this year where Nolan Reimold started in center field. Center! And the Orioles won!

To me Nolan looked more comfortable in Center then he does in L/R. He might actually be less bad there.

I didnt think he was that bad in L or R, of course, he will never get mistaken for plus defender.

I'm still holding out hope for a couple semi-big acquisitions then filling all the other holes with Nate McLouths and the nex gen Steve Pearcees and the like.

agree. each/every spot on the 40-man should be populated IAW some kind of plan which considers both "role" and "value" IMHO.

Considering what happened in AZ last night I'd say Chris Carter would be a serious upgrade for the Vens - no matter how old he is now - but back to baseball...

Their all-time biggest external acquisition is still Miguel Tejada 12 years ago, at 6/72, or about half of what it will take to sign Davis. I think it's plausible that the Orioles make their biggest ever signing this offseason. But that's far from certain, and it would only take a moderately-size 2015 free agent contract to set that record. Basically, it's been well over a decade since the Orioles signed an in-demand Grade A/B free agent.

Flip a coin? Who's cheaper? Either one is likely 4-5 wins down from Davis at first. Alvarez might be better in that you could (theoretically) leverage his platoon splits into bigger value.

Obviously big holes in his game but he's a potential high-reward guy. And could benefit from the AL switch.

He's not a Davis replacement but could be a worthwhile guy to have in my opinion, depending of course on budget questions and how much his salary would affect the possibility of signing someone better.

Jaso's OBP may be attractive but he can't help any team from the DL. He played 53 games last year. Wrist injury. He has had repeated concussions. I don't see how the O's could count on Jaso because he is so injury prone.
