Chris Tillman

I didn't think Tillman was very sharp tonight. He didn't command his secondary pitches well and even on his fastball he missed his spots a lot.

Joseph set his target off the plate when Tillman was already behind in the count numerous times, including on 2-0 and 3-0 counts. That makes no sense.

Yet people here claim he's the better catcher

I think tonight might be the most important start of the year. If Tillman just tweaked his shoulder and now it's fine after a couple extra days of rest, we'll stay in the hunt. If Tillman is trying to manage through an injury that's going to impede his effectiveness the rest of the season, we're dead. Simple as that.

Sadly true. We can weather losing O'Day, any of the other DLs. Tillman might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Well said Frobby, I agree completely. *Fingers crossed*

    • And played in 163 games. Many have suggested that Belle, still in his prime at the age of 32, was on the track to a Hall of Fame career.
    • Honestly, Gunnar could repeat here. He is starting to get MVP mentions and not just from Baltimore press. Suarez is a great story, and I would also offer Webb as a kind of unsung hero.  Bradish coming back healthy is arguably exceeding expectation in itself.  Westburg and Irvin are great choices as well.
    • I think a lot of us are waiting for Irvin to have some regression, but I’m with you. I’m officially on Irvin Breakout watch. Had the same thought yesterday myself.  100% agree about Westburg. He’s fantastic and looks like he’s got staying power. What a great development.
    • I’m not up on contracts, but Means is a free agent after this season as well, right? No idea about Irvin. Pretty sure we have a decent amount of control left over Bradish and Kremer. I know we have a ways to go with Grayson. So the rotation could look very different next year. Hopefully Povich is up for it. I’d try to find a way to call him up this year, even if out of the bullpen. He’s gotta start facing MLB hitters this year if he’s going to slot into the rotation next year IMO.  But, like the rest of our team, I think the rotation today is quite good, and still not as good as it’s going to be later into the summer. I look forward to everyone’s turn now to see what they’ll accomplish next.
    • Westburg but also Cowser.   Cowser is just as, if not more, talented but he can’t grind AB’s the way Westburg can and doesn’t seem as instinctual defensively or on the bases.   Westburg for sure.  Cowser too.
    • Every year a couple of things happen that you hoped for, but didn’t really expect.  2022: Gunnar goes from lower top 100 prospect to best prospect in the game. 2023: Bradish goes from mid/back of rotation starter to no. 4 in the Cy Young voting.   This year, for me it’s Jordan Westburg going from looking like a decent major league starter into a star player.  It’s still early, and Westburg could hit some cold spells, but as I watch him play every day, I don’t think there’s anything flukey going on here.  He hits the ball hard almost every time, he’s very fundamentally sound, and he’s mentally tough.   I think we have a long time star on our hands. I’m also a starting to think Cole Irvin is a big story for 2024.   But I’m not as sure about that one.
    • I have no idea why we haven't done this yet. We have the technology to remove human error. We have the ability to be above reproach in this modern gambling age. Let's get it done. The minor leagues already use it and as we heard, it has affected players coming from the minors to the majors (why we have different procedures in the minors vs the majors is beyond me, like when they used different balls). I can't see what the argument would be for the other side.
