How in the hell did Billy Beane ever think trading away Donaldson was a good idea?

It's because he wanted to sell high off a career year for an older player (turning 29) and entering arbitration, for some prospects plus a similar player several years younger in Brett Lawrie.

It may not be very good logic, but that was the logic going in.

Heres what the A's got for trading the MVP Donaldson.:

Third baseman Brett Lawrie, right-hander Kendall Graveman, left-hander Sean Nolin and minor league shortstop Franklin Barreto.

Beane must be a closet Toronto fan or Anthropoulos (sp?) has dirt on him! (just kidding, he is simply overrated and believes his own hype).
