Uhhh no he wasn't burned up.

He came on and got 1 or 2 outs and then we turned a 2 run game into a 5 run game.

Instead of going to givens or anyone else, he pushed him back out there for 3 more outs and in the process extended him another 25 pitches and burned him for yesterday and today.

That is on buck. Period.

Did you post to that effect on the game thread? Do you not understand the difference between a divisional game against Toronto? Would you rather have seen Givens blow that game than this one?

It will probably happen at least one more time this season, maybe more.

I know that that does not make you feel better, but that is the reality of a sport that has a 162-game season. It's going to be great sometimes, and it's going to suck sometimes. So far this season, it's been more good than bad for the Orioles. The question is, will they be able to maintain that (more good than bad) over the course of the marathon season?

Nope, not with this pitching

He pitched the 18th and 19th so he was already back to back games he wasn't going to pitch Monday either way.

You really think the Orioles thought he could get it reduced but said the hell with it?

And once again who pitches the 8th inning tonight??

Well considering d.cknose from the royals got his reduced and there is still a players union, why would we not see if it will be reduced?

Also, I don't remember bucks exact words, but he intimated after brach threw 40 pitches that he would get the next couple days off.

You can look up the exact quote if you want.

Either way, brach wasn't pitching tonight.

So every time with a lead he should have someone else up warming?

Drake needed time to get ready.

At what point should he have been throwing?

Don't know. I would say the discussion has moved away from this particular incident to Buck in general. If you want to say Buck made the right moves tonight, that's fine. I might agree or disagree, but neither answer determines whether Buck is a good, bad, or average in-game manager.

The long view. Yes. It's so easy to lose sight of how much more we have to go. Truly awful tonight. And Monday was dreadful. Tomorrow, we may have flowers blooming out our backsides.

As I type this, Kim and Davis on with a walk and a hit. You just never know. Four to tie, five to win.

    • Jered Weaver!! How's that for a random 10+ year old pull? Sadly, he might be the only one! But yes, there has been at least 1.

    • Wow. “Near-ready starter” and consideration in the top 100 based on a breakout in 17.1 IP in AA as a 25 year old? I’d love to see it obviously, but that seems really going out on a limb. Young hasn’t pitched nearly enough in his whole professional career to suggest he can hold up under a full SP workload, or sustain this velo bump. I’m excited for Young and this only reinforces my thought that the Orioles might have something here, but my hopes are still just for a healthy season and maybe he becomes a RP option in 2025.
    • Yesterday Max Bay was Eno's guest.   I'd known the name as Eno often described him as the mathy co-parent of Stuff+ but it was new to me in the video he'd been a 1-time member of the Astros analytics department.
    • It’s starting to feel like if we don’t get Gunnar signed, the rest of it won’t even matter. We have a lot of good players and several that are extension worthy as has been outlined in many posts. But Gunnar is in another stratosphere even from the best of the other guys. The talent, the results (already, not to mention the likely improvement or at least potential for that in the next few years) good health so far with the body type that should maintain - the kid is an outright superstar, and I just don’t think that is true of the rest of these guys.  I love Westburg, Adley, Colton, Jackson, Grayson. Hell I love this team. But Gunnar is The Guy and it’s not even remotely close.    Surely there is a Boras client in the history of Boras clients who has signed early?  Give the dude a blank check as far as I’m concerned.
    • I'd target Westburg first.  He should be more amendable and affordable and might serve as a sign to his teammates that the O's are serious about keeping a core together for an extended run.
