If this turns out to be accurate it's another example of a dysfunctional front office. There is no excuse for leaking that they are talking to someone while they still have their current manager.

If it turns out to be accurate it'll be great for the O's to get someone like Giardi. But now if it doesn't whomever they do go to at some point it'll be a disappointment. This organization needs to learn how to keep things quiet. If Loose Lips Sink Ships, the O's boat would be at the bottom of the ocean.

Nothing remains a secret in sports today. I hear what you're saying, though.

I'm sure that the O's have already informed Sammy to start cleaning out the offfice. What do you think, the first time Sam hears of his termination is AT the press conference? Gimme a break here!

Former Minnesota GM and Cubs President

Won a WS with the Twins in 91

He is thought by some to be the next commissioner.

Unfortunately after leaving the Twins he wasn't very successful in his next gig. I just hope they get Giardi considering who was the manager of the last team whose FO he was the president of.

Unless Perlozzo already knows that he's been let go. If they can't get Girardi, than they might go with Trembly or Treblehorn as an interm manager.

What exactly does COO stand for?

Chief Operating Officer.

From wikipedia...

A Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a corporate officer responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the corporation. The COO is one of the highest ranking members of an organization, monitoring the daily operations of the company and reporting to the Board of Directors. The COO is usually an executive or senior vice president.

The chief operating officer is responsible for operations management (OM). The focus of the COO is on strategic, tactical, and short-term OM, which means he or she is responsible for the design, operation, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver the firm's products/services. Managers need to understand the real work behind the company's core operations, and the buck stops with the COO, whose primary concern is operations improvement. The duties of the COO may reside in certain organizations with a Vice President of Operations.

Sam knew his fate yesterday morning before the game.

No, but say they can't come to an agreement with Giardi. The team comes out looking even more ridiculous and then everybody knows whomever they do get wasn't the guy they wanted, wasn't their first choice. Good organizations keep things quiet until the deal is done... Bad organzations leak like a broken faucet. Unfortunately, the Orioles are the broken faucet.

I don't get the MacPhail part. The last thing this team needs is more bureaucracy.

Well, "hang on for the ride", I guess...

They already had an opening when Joe Foss left. His position has been left vacant, and is being filled by MacPhail.
