That's what I'm thinking. There's a clear need on both sides.

I swear to whatever, if he becomes Mauer with Power over there, I will riot and protest.

Extremely unlikely that will happen.

Wieters has power but nowhere near Mauer's contact skills and Wieters is aging.

I don't understand with that staff why the Nationals would go with a known bad pitch framer. It's not like Weiters is going to provide much offense. They should get the best defensive/pitch framing catcher available even if its a AAAA guy who is going to hit .180. Hey maybe we can trade them Joseph?

I'm starting to think he might not get a multi-year deal.  Maybe he gets something like Castillo got here, with a mutual option after the first year.  Seems like he overrated his market (as did I, I wanted to offer him the QO figuring he'd turn it down, but he might've taken it again).  At this point, I think he probably gets 1yr/$10M from someone like the Nats or Angels..  Maybe 2/$20M with the aforementioned mutual option.

Boras usually gets great deals for his guys, but occasionally it does not work out. This will be an example of it. Matt will get something that the O's would have been happy to do, but it is too late now. Matt's family will uprooted simply because his agent has a certain stance. But in the end it is the player's choice. He will get 2/16 tops.

Speculation that Matt has started working out in RF is unconfirmed.

Lol.....that would be fun to watch, as long as it would be for another team.  He'd have the range of a Mack truck.

It would be like one of those Lifelock commercials.

"I don't play right field. I'm a right field monitor. I tell you when a ball has been hit to right field." (watches as ball rolls to the wall) "A ball has been hit to right field."

Wieters makes no sense for them for a couple of reasons. The Nationals don't need a catcher anyway. They traded for Norris and Lobaton is still there. Plus they've got Severino, the kid who came up and looked spectacular last year. He's probably not going to hit like that, but he's regarded as one of the best defensive catchers around. He'll probably start off at AAA, but could be the Nats' starter by the end of the season. They also have a prospect named Spencer Kieboom was in AA last year and projects as a solid big league backup because of his superior defense. So they certainly don't want to sign Wieters long-term and block Severino. And since they're fine at that position already, they'd be better off spending the money on resigning Drew (if he can't find a starting gig) and a relief pitcher.

I suppose the Angels make some sense for Wieters if they can sign him without assaulting the luxury tax. But the truth is Wieters really isn't that good. And he hasn't been for about the past five years. His bat never lived up to the hype and his defense has been below average for awhile. He's been living on reputation.

Uhhh, why?

Wieters isn't very good.  Teams are looking for good pitch framers and Wieters is one of the worst.

Right, which is why they don't seem to be willing to pay extra for a framer.

Oh and despite last year Wieters is a better framer than Beef.

We could do a one year deal at 8 million.  We need two catchers.   I am sure Wieters would hit a lot better if he only played half the games in the field.

Has pitch framing really hurt his market, or is that something we're talking into a reality here at the OH?

Like I just said, he's better than Beef and overall I don't think "one of the worst" is a fair description of how the metrics grade him.

I'll believe that GM's value framing as much as the analysts do when I see two things:

Guys getting paid, and I mean paid, for framing.

Managers pulling their starting Catcher in save situations for a framing specialist.
