At 2B there is a pathway for Palmeiro to ultimately become a big leaguer at some point (not that he will). He doesn't have the bat for first base.

He's listed as 5'11" 180. In comparison Ruben Tejada is listed at 5'11" 200. 

So it's not like Palmeiro is some lurching 6'4" first basemen.
