Mark Appel was DFA'ed by the Phillies today. 

He was originally drafted by the Astros in 2013 and traded to the Phillies in 2015.

Why not.  Shoulder, elbow injuries derailed his last two seasons.  There are currently 7 spots on the 40 man roster.

$6.6 mm signing bonus.    But perhaps that’s not as bad as Danny Hultzen, no. 2 overall in 2011 and got an overall deal (bonus plus guaranteed major league deal) worth $8.5 mm.   He also suffered shoulder injuries and was released by the Mariners.
