Jim Palmer just threw Chris Davis under the bus

I don't consider it throwing under the bus when it is correct. He is not good at baseball. He makes more money than the GDP of a small country to not be good at baseball. As a fan, I don't care about his feelings. I just want him to at least put in the effort to come close to feeling like he has "earned" his contract.

Its also possible there is some misunderstanding on what transpired.   Maybe CD said he worked with Coolbaugh and he considered talking with him and taking what was said and applying it to his off season work as work.  Others took "work" to mean spending time working with him in person.  So maybe nobody is lying, just its not what others took it to be.

Yea, apparently Davis doesn't like to tinker.  He must somehow be convinced doing the same thing will yield different results.  Someone should tell him he's wrong.

My guess is that someone has told him.

Can't force him to do anything.

I do wonder if Buck sitting him for a couple weeks might make an impact.

I remember seeing an interview with Davis in the off season on MLB network.  In that interview Davis said, to paraphrase, "we have been working on a new approach, taking less pitches and trying to hit my pitch earlier in the count."

Who is "we"?

The fact is not much has changed.  Swing rates, pitches he is seeing, contact rates.  What has changed is he doesn't hit the ball as hard and he might be the worst hitter against a fastball in the league, a decline that been happening for three years.

I can completely buy Palmer' s frustration.  When Cal's bat got slower he changed his stance, preloaded some of the weight shift.  To not see any changes from Chris is frustrating.

Did some more investigative journalism.   Found 4 separate Roch blog posts from the offseason............all reference Davis spending time working with Coolbaugh.

The first one is particularly notable because it talks about Davis calling into the Hot Stove Show while driving home after finishing "another session" with Scott Coolbaugh.

 

To be clear, I completely understand why Coolbaugh is lying.........he knows his (posterior) is on the line.  he'll be fired before Davis will be.

But that's still not ok.   We don't need coaches on this team that will throw players under the bus when times get tough.  We need quite the opposite, in fact.

(none of this post should be taken as an attempt to absolve Davis of all blame for this season at all...........it is meant to simply show that while Davis is struggling more than he probably ever has at any point in his professional career, his coach and (according to some reports) friend is turning on him.  That's not cool.)

While I can't say with 100% certainty........ it seems that Coolbaugh is the one changing his story from January to now.

Boy, that clip of the called strike is crazy. I had not seen that. Does seem like possibly an ADHD thing, like he doesn't have enough concentration to focus on a single pitch. I'd say it's time to put Davis on the DL and send him to the doctor until his meds are worked out. Trumbo can play 1B where he belongs.

Do you think Davis called into that radio show, and completely made up a story about driving home from a Coolbaugh workout session?

Am I like...........COMPLETELY 100% sure that Davis isn't a total, repeated pathological liar?

No.  But I've examined enough evidence now to believe I know where it points.
