Oh I promise I could play you some opera that you would completely fall in love with. Go to YouTube and look up the dinner scene from Don Giovanni by Mozart. It’s the most riveting, exciting, 10 minutes in all of opera and he wrote it in 1787, I think. There is indeed a lot of screaming stuff, but if you like a good cry, or to feel exultant or bitter, there’s nothing better than opera to help you express that.

the fun starts at 2:40.

Don Giovanni refuses to repent. He  killed a guy and when he saw a statue of the murder victim, he invited him to dinner and the statue accepted. The statue tells him to repent. Don Giovanni refuses.

“No, really, repent or I’ll drag you down to Hell.”

”Nope I’ll never repent.”

“Ooookkkkaaaayyy,  if you say so.”

And the statue drags him down to Hell.

incredible. It must have been shattering for folks in 1787. Still riveting today.
