I agree. I was just saying. There is no justification for it.

Of course it is justifiable.  "We endeavored to find a trade partner for Villar and failed to do so.  Due to a decrease in TV ratings and attendance we needed to lower payroll.  Sadly this need caused us to non-tender Villar as his 2020 salary was untenable given our other financial obligations."

The only people that ever insinuated such a scenario was the Villar haters here..... You know ...the ones that wanted to trade him for scraps, a bag of balls, a AAAA relief arm.....Give him away to dump his Salary at the deadline.

Those guys!

It's not happening.... it's a pipe dream.

I don't hate Villar.

I just think the team has a very limited budget.

This is just a baseball myth.....The Orioles are losing Trumbo and a few other high salaries.

The national tv revenue, MASN revenue, sponsorships, and they still drew what 1.5 million fans? Even if the average per fan gameday spend was $20 ticket, $10 per for parking, and $20 in concessions that's and additional $75 million.

This article claims revenues per team and for the Orioles $250 million. Quit crying the poor Orioles crap!

And I think the baseball owners including Mr Angelos have guys like you brainwashed.

What was the payroll this year? 80 million? So they have a net of $150ish minus some other expenses that even if you subtract $20 million is a still a ton.

What about all the lean years when the Orioles weren't spending after Albert Belle and before the Buck years? They can go unbury $20+ million per season.

What the heck are you talking about?

Brainwashed?

Are you familiar with my overly extensive posting history?

I am quite sure that the O's were profitable, very profitable, in 2019.

I am sure they could spend more on the 2020 team and still be profitable.

I am also sure that the owners have expectations when it comes to a return on their investment.

Just because the team produces a certain amount of income does not mean that they can then, in turn, spend that income.

I think the Orioles and MASN are the chief source of income for the Angelos family.

We should keep Villar. Pay him the 7M or so that arbitration rules. Unless we can get another second baseman with a 4.0 WAR that bats .274 with 24 HR, 33 2B, scores 111 R, and steals 40 bases. Just play him at second not short.

I'm in the flip everyone of value that won't be a positive contributor in 2022 camp.

I’m in that same camp, I’m just raising you 2023. We’re an entire pitching staff away,  plus the inevitable depth needed to compete.

We’re in the beginning stages of a 5 year rebuild and people are having a hard time parting with Villar. The reality is we should be talking about trading Mancini and Means.

Here’s the reality of our situation, through all the “rebuilding” we’ve done the last 1.5 years, the Yankees likely acquired more, or just as much, talent this int’l signing period. We’re fighting an uphill battle.

I think anyone who will still be an asset in 2022 is cheap enough that they can hold onto them for now.

I'll disagree with you on your Yankee point.  I wouldn't trade AR for Jasson Dominguez.  Huge ceiling of course but the bust potential of any 16 year old is too great.
