If I were Mountcastle I’d be having some “issues” right now. He won the AAA International League MVP. He was the best player in the darn league. He’s 23 and not 20. He’s shown a willingness to try 3-4

Mountcastle should’ve been 100% been up after the 7 games or whatever. Probably before then.    Diaz should’ve gotten the call once Hays went on the DL and Mullins/Stewart flopped.    I

I'd park Davis on the bench and have Mountcastle and Nunez share at bats at 1st and at DH. Dwight Smith can go too and Diaz is the everyday LF

A couple other things come to mind.  Mountcastle could be sick or injured.  He could be having behavioral issues that they need to get ahead of.  Scenarios exist but it's odd.

I'd be curious to take a look at those guys as much as anyone else but I don't think Mountcastle and Diaz hold the keys to a bunch of wins and screwing ourselves out of a top pick.

Agreed. For all we know, one or both could be in the COVID protocol.

Or doing bad at Bowie.

Anythings possible. I would have hoped if there we behavioral concerns they would have been addressed prior to him being on the cusp of the mlb but who knows

Diaz has had all of half a good season at AA, has not even cracked AAA. I don't see any rush to bring him up as long as Santander is productive. Hays gets a long leash. Are you really going to burn a year of service time for perhaps 10-15 games of development in a platoon role? 

Mountcastle makes more sense. I don't know what the holdup is. Maybe just trying to give Valaika, Mullins, and Smith as much run as possible before we have to go to 28?

Which half season was that?

Would be kinda hard for him to crack AAA this year.

I haven't been keeping up, but what are MLB ready prospects like Mountcastle doing not to lose their edge with no organized games this year.

      I could see McGough getting added, possibly this year. He has a solid resume. Could become the next Vespi (optionable lefty guy) especially if we lose Vespi to waivers. I predict Billy Cook gets traded for a bullpen arm.

      Yates (37) could be a very solid rental.  He was lights out great as the 2019 Padres closer with 41 saves.  He then missed most of 2020, all of 2021, and most of 2022.  He came back and pitched well for the Braves in relief last year.  This year he has been great again, looking like the guy he was in 2019.

      @VanceWilder’s complaint is that Mike hasn’t addressed the problem, which is true. I’m sure Mike is calling folks but he’s unwilling to pay the price. Who is traded is really moot. Someone needs to be brought on board, and that hasn’t happened yet.

      when Holliday obliterated AA at the same age with an OPS over 1.000, against the same washed up pitchers that Basallo is having success against. Whats good for the goose. Basallo will put under the same scrutiny As JH when he does what JH did come up and make a mess of it for 3 weeks. Maybe they are both too young. Its a rare talant the can handle MLB at such young age

      I respect your opinion, but there is no other reason to have Urias over Mayo right now.  I guess we could get creative and keep Urias till September by option Cowser to get Mayo up here. Or we could go with a short bullpen and rotate fresh arms in the 7th pen spot.
