Nice piece of hitting by Santander there.   Too bad Mancini got caught up on the bases but at least he extended the play and we ended up with a runner on 2B.

Hard to say whether the baserunning  or the defense was worse on the Santander single, but I'll go with the defense.

Teams have decided for the last several years that all fields hitters aren't going to be a thing any more, it seems.  If baseball has to try to get away from Three True Outcomes through rules changes...  well, so be it.

Mullins on 2nd, Santander singled to right, Renfroe (80 arm may have had play at the plate) bobbled the pickup, so he changed gears and threw to 2B with Mancini about 20 feet past the bag.

Trey held the rundown long enough for Santander to get to 2nd, but Santander let him have the bag as Red Sox muffed the rundown.

TOOTBLAN on Trey though Santander was the one who got tagged out.

So, serious question. What’s the difference in skill sets between 2B and 3B? Is it possible a guy can be a terrible 3B and a good 2B?
