We still got to the point where we’re up by 1 in the 10th for a save situation.

In reality though, we were on our 5th reliever and Bautista was unavailable. Who were we going to bring in over Gilaspie?

Remember when Hyde brought in Stevie Wilkerson over Tanner Scott in a save Situation?  Lol. Hilarious.

You didn’t need to bring anyone in.  Cano looked great, even better than on Friday, and breezed through the 9th on 11 pitches after throwing 25 on Friday.

This is true, but maybe Hyde knew something we didn’t. But yes… looking at it, it does seem like Hyde was being a slave to Gilaspie being our backup closer.

Cano can’t become Jorge Lopez if we don’t let him try.

I can’t recall Gillaspie ever having a clean inning.  Maybe he becomes something but I had no confidence in him keeping that ghost runner from coming in that inning.

It is not often you see any manager let a reliever throw multiple innings two days in a row.

I would have brought Coulombe to start the 8th instead of Voth.  It worked out.  The whole inning changed on the first hitter, Vaughn.  3-1 count, high cutter above the strike zone called a strike and then caught him looking at an actual strike on the next pitch.

Ok. You’re down 7-0.  Do you pitch one of your best relievers 2 2/3 innings and burn him for the next two nights or do you try to get 6.2 innings from Voth, Akins, and Perez.  That’s not giving up.  That’s being smart.

Smart would have been pulling Bradish 2 batters earlier.

Another great point.  He wants to protect his bullpen arms but lets his 26 year old starter throw 81 pitches in 2.1 innings.  That’s abuse.
