Scott Garceau

My biggest problem with Garceau is not that he often screws up calls, names the wrong player, doesn't know the ball-strike count, etc. Some of that is attributable to not being at the games, and sometimes it can be kind of amusing.

What gets me is that he seems to know so little about baseball. "So, Jim, his breaking ball will come in a bit slower than his four-seamer, isn't that right?" I made that up, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear Scott say it. It just works a lot better if there's a closer match between what the play-by-play guy and the (ex-player) announcer have to contribute, leading to some intelligent and informative two-way conversation. Catch the Mets' TV broadcasts for a good example.

Thanks in part to the stinginess of the organization, this team can be hard to watch, and I'm turning off more games earlier than I can remember. Having Garceau in Thorne's seat doesn't help, and kind of beats us over the head with the message that the Orioles just don't care much about their remaining fans.
