I would be interested in reading people’s impressions of Wells.   I didn’t get a chance to see the game.   Looks like he missed the strike zone more than usual, but obviously he survived.

He wasn't missing any bats, and didn't have the control I expected from some of his AAA numbers (only 4 walks in 32 IP, while walking 2 in 2 innings today).  That said he only gave up the 1 hit, and no runs.  I wasn't really impressed with anything I saw, seems I recall most of his outs being fly outs.  All that said, considering how poor our pitching has been, I'll take zero runs any day.

Lots of loud outs or foul balls. I don’t think it’s a revelation to say that there are serious doubts about whether his stuff will play at the ML level, but I’m certainly rooting for him and you can’t count him out, of course.

FB at 89-91 mph was straight, CU was big looping and not much depth, and the CH didn’t have much vertical movement or armside run.  A lot of hard hit balls. He seemed to work quickly, so....

If both Urias and Leyba are both up, I’m thinking Stevie gets sent down if he has options.

He has already been in minors thus season so he has to have an option as they already used one for this season.

Pitched to contact.  Stay out of the middle of the plate.   Went right through he middle of the Jays order.   Got Vald to pop up.   We knew he was not going to blow anyone away.   But he looked confident, working fast, and got outs.    Compared to Akin and Wade he was Superman.

:new_beer:  Glass always half full and I love it!  My impressions exactly also - for his first experience in the bigs, a nice start.  His arsenal is varied (if not plus) and kept the hitters off balance.  They did square him up big time and Hays saved a runner with his catch.  But I was impressed for the most part.

I know they are protecting the arms but it would not surprise me if Wade went back down. He threw 43 pitches, Wells 46. Doubt either one would be available Monday. Off day Thursday. Reassess then. Another off day July 5.  This pitching staff needs it. Whole team does considering how things are going.

First inning I was listening on radio. They talked how he does a good job of not showing his emotions. Hays helped him first hitter. Second inning I saw. I’ll just say I was glad for him he got out of it scoreless. He will need to be much better to have success up here. For a major league debut I’m sure he will take it.
