There wasn’t a consensus #1 in this draft. We cut a deal with a guy who’s a top college bat so we can do more damage in later rounds. I like the pick. It also shows me that Elias feels our window is closer than most want to believe. Getting a high schooler takes much longer to develop. This guy will be ready sooner. Let’s go O’s!

So does he think the pitching is in place? If so I’m concerned

People did it in the 40+ round draft, why not 20?

I'm not sure I ever remember a team making a top 5 pick taking an underslot player so they scan spend more later. Typically teams save money by taking $10K players in rounds 5-10 in order to save money. Guess we'll see how it works out.

Last year there was the partial year and only five rounds so it made a little sense.

I'm not saying this is a bad pick or a bad strategy, it's just unique. I probably would have wanted a little more impact with a top five pick. At least Kjerstad, prior to his illness, had top level power.

This pick makes me doubt everything that Elias said about kjeirsted being the player they had rated as BPA last year.

I think because of Kjeirsted’s heart issues that’s why they’re going with Cowser here. If we have both here in Baltimore in the future, wouldn’t be bad. Dude looks like a great hitter and a solid defender, and could have more upside on defense and getting more hits total

After getting burned going underslot last year, I thought Elias might actually wisen up....   Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice- shame on me....

Cowser faced dreadful pitching in his conference... one of the worst conferences in college.    His college numbers simply won't translate to professional ball....

I'm just in shock....

You should probably log off and go read a book or something.

Kjerstad also led all of college ball in walks too when drafted and less strikeouts than Austin Martin

That would be stupid.

You go BPA not make a reactionary pick based on a player suffering illness.
