You have two choices.  You can accept what he's saying or you can reject what he's saying.

Either way, this is not going to be a big spending team, certainly not in the near future, or at least as long as the Angelo's family owns the team.

This should only come as a surprise to those who have been living in a cave or a remote island with no internet.

And if MASN was handled properly it would probably go a long way to making up for that difference in market.

They were a big spending team recently.

 

And btw, I don’t care if they spend 170M again.  I’m not asking for that now or in the near future.

Hopefully they do more like Cleveland and sign their own players to team friendly contracts and buy out their arbitration years. I don't think Correa was ever more then a thought for this year.

None of their established players are in their early 20's though. I think all of them are 26 or older. AR and GR dont count because they aren't up yet.

Good plan, don't call up guys in their early 20's that way you can claim you don't have any established players in their early 20's to extend.

Haven't heard much about a Hays, Mullins, Mountcastle or Means extension.  Instead of aggressively promoting guys and extending them they appear to be trying to maximize team control.

If signing Adley to a long term deal was considered an option would he still be in the minors?

I'm willing to bet ownership won't sign off on early extensions to buyout arbitration and early free agent years. Elias is smart enough to recognize the value of such actions and how it increases a player's trade value. 

The Angelos family has never shown itself to be that forward thinking.

Big spending?  They never got any higher than 10th/11th in 2016-17.   $161.3 mm was the high in 2017 by BB-ref’s accounting.  

I will assume that if the O’s become contenders their attendance will rebound to 2 mm+.  If so, I think they can get back into the $140-150 mm payroll range.   A well run team can compete with that payroll.

Hayes signed an extension but his name is spelled differently and on  the Pirates.He is 25 .Eight years I think

The economics of baseball have changed since then.  I am not certain that type of payroll can compete for a full year outside a very slect few superbly run small market franchises.

When would most people agree that it's time to started truly judging Elias and the team on the field? Every year it seems to get moved again.

 

So I guess it's just a simple question for me, when do results matter? A time rather than just saying when x, y or z get called up.
