Simple question.

In a couple weeks, if the O's are still hunting a wild card spot Elias could feel obligated to give the team some kind of reinforcement. After all, playoff push = more fans = more money. The most obvious positional need is 3B.

However, I could also see him sticking firmly to his promotion timeline regardless of the wild card hunt.

No.

I want them to promote Henderson. I think they should promote Henderson. But I voted "no". Service time, 40 man roster flexibility in the fall and winter, Henderson's relative youth, etc., will result in Henderson not being promoted this season. But I hope I am wrong.

I don't think ME will ever "feel obligated" to do that. He might bring Stowers up but that is a 40 man move he might not want to make at this time. Maybe Hall but he isn't doing well consistently and has very few innings left. I can see ME playing games with Gunner's clock until a few weeks into 2023.

If I had a gun to my head, I'd have to go with a "no" but I think there's a chance.   I don't think it's before the 45 days threshold and after that may depend on if the team is still in the hunt for the wildcard.   Henderson only comes if if Odor gets benched/released.   Even if that happens he may get replaced by Vavra.   In that scenario, I don't think Henderson comes up with Urias, Mateo, Vavra.   If they decide to keep Vavra LF/DH and decide they've had enough of Odor then MAYBE.

If you don’t call him up this year, he’s not going to be on the OD roster.  So, you saying that you will start the 2023 season with an inferior roster as you try to make the playoffs.

That is completely unacceptable.  I think he should be up now but if you want to wait on the 45 day thing, so be it.  But get him up here and get his feet wet.  Let him see that pitching and see what it’s like to be in the majors.

    • Ah. So you can only get one pick per player? That’s a bummer. Reasonable, I suppose. But a bummer nonetheless
    • It's true that this has been discussed, and there are differing schools of thought.  Some, like myself, feel that the resources required in a Crochet deal, might be better served addressing a more impactful need for 2024: a ToR starter.  As a starter beginning next season, it's likely Crochet's impact will be higher as a strong ToR starter through the final two years of control.  In the meantime, there are quite a few very solid veteran late inning relievers that we could deal for in order to satisfy that need, and that wouldn't require near the cost of a Crochet.
    • It makes sense to me for multiple reasons. 1) IMO we do not have the requisite pitching talent in order to matchup favorably against the leagues best in a 7 game series in October. That needs to change. 2) We don’t need extra offense IMO. Nor a back up catcher. We will be fine offensively if we don’t have one considering without both we are number one in the sport. 3) We could resign Burnes with that 50 million (not sure where you are getting that number). But so many here believe it will be a bad deal. And having another #1 in house protects us from having to be leveraged against signing him.
    • Starter and then reliever and then back to starter. Risky risky risky.
    • Why do we need to outbid someone for Skubal? We still have Bradish and Grayson for years to come. Also a punchers chance at resigning Corbin Burnes. You know what our record was before we signed Burnes? Best record in the AL. You know what our record has been since Bradish got hurt? Tracked down Yankees and took 3 game lead. We have resources to sign players next year. Elias is a value vs risk guy. He got Burnes with Joey Ortiz which is a top 50-60 prospect. He’s not giving up top 10 prospect for a player with 178 innings pitched. I like Crochet a lot but his track record isn’t long enough.
    • You can sign a Chris Bassitt/Eovaldi/Gray type guy and trade for someone else.  If I were the Os, I would be trying to acquire a pitcher like Detmers, Cabrera, etc…someone with a great arm that we can take away from a garbage org and “fix them”. I also think a Luzardo deal could happen as I could see the Os trying to pry him away for 70 cents on the dollar and I could see Miami saying, we need to do something with him.
