Rules are rules. I don't totally get this one, but it's also not that big of a deal for a catcher to obey. If he doesn't know the rule, then it's his own fault.

That’s my problem with the rule. It can be argued that he was blocking a portion of the plate, while still allowing a lane to part of the plate. When this happens, all the base runner needs to do is slide wherever the catcher is and ask for a challenge. It’s a dumb rule put in place to stop injuries that rarely happened.
