I’d say that would surprise me for a few reasons. First, it sounds like he’s already low in the defensive spectrum. Sure, we can think of 1 first rounder (Kjerstad) who fit that bill but only 1. Second, Law said White tends to chase out of the zone. The O’s are very big on chase rates. Third, I believe he’s a RH hitter. Strike 3. -
Meh, I think they’re both pretty replaceable but still trust Perez more. Since the beginning of last year, Perez has a 3.82 ERA, 3.80 FIP, 4.53 xFIP, and has been worth 0.5 WAR in 61.1 innings. Baumann has a 3.69 ERA, 4.41 FIP, 4.77 xFIP, and has been worth 0 WAR in 83 innings. I do agree that Baumann being able to go multiple innings is beneficial, but it seemed like half the time they wanted to use him for multiple innings, he couldn’t throw strikes and then his outing ended early. Cionel’s 2022-2023 numbers definitely saved him (2.43 ERA), but he could easily be the next guy dropped from the BP. -

Some of my wariness apart from the general is do Bradish or Grayson have better long range forecasts. I do feel like Rubenstein over Angelos gives hope two top tier players stay, but for the 2028-2030 part is Burnes even in the top 5 talents? Certainly before the 2024 rollercoaster ends, Elias will have a lot more information what the young pitchers are made of. -
That would be about where I’d draw the line. -
Batter speed is probably less important than the contact and OBP stuff (since most MLB double plays are probably going to be double plays no matter who's running). But it certainly matters a bit, and would be another thing working in the O's favor. I looked and couldn't find a team-based sprint speed ranking. But I could find this: among each team's 9 most played players so far, the O's have seven above average sprint speeders and only two below average (Rutschman, Santander). Part of the Yankees GIDP machine is that they have seven below average sprint speeders and only two above average (Volpe, Cabrera). -
