Orioles related trade rumors and speculation leading up to the deadline

Scherzer is putting up his worst season in over a decade and it's difficult to see that turning around at 39. He stabilizes a rotation, but he's not winning you games by himself anymore.

Paying what the Rangers did is a sign of being desperate, which they are with no deGrom. But you can make a case for it with the amount of money they've both already put in and can still put in if necessary in addition to having the best offense in baseball.

I don't see that dynamic on our end. Scherzer would be thrust into the number one role, we don't have an offense like the Rangers do, we don't have a massive payroll in win-now mode, and we can't just paper over any mistakes we make by throwing even more money in the coming years.

We don't have to do something just to do something. It has to make sense.

We have to do something meaningful though or else we are just conceding the AL to them

  • N.Y. Mets, $353,546,854
  • N.Y. Yankees, $276,999,872
  • San Diego, $248,995,932
  • Philadelphia, $243,009,439
  • L.A. Dodgers, $222,717,834
  • L.A. Angels, $212,228,096
  • Toronto, $ 209,938,983

Throwing money doesn't seem to be a winning strategy this season unless you're the Dodgers.  Not the Orioles' sandbox.

Would love to see this move backfire on the Rangers.

In fairness, the Phillies were in the World Series just 9 months ago.
