Not good.

Every cloud has a silver lining.   This means, most likely, Norby or Holliday get extended time at 2B.   Norby looks like first man up.

And here’s hoping that means reduced playing time for Urias.

Dislocated elbow. Norby likely in lineup tomorrow and is being added to the roster.

Hope Mateo recovers well!

Is this something that could impact his ability to play the field?  Could he be ready to bat before he's ready to field?  Not sure you carry bat only Mateo in the regular season but probably in the postseason.

This looks like Norby’s golden opportunity.   I think he can win the full time job which would mean Westburg full time at 3B and limited time for Urias.   The question is, will Norby be here next Thursday?

You never carry bat only Mateo.  I guess you’re thinking of the PR aspect?

A sort of three headed monster approach where Westy/Holliday/Norby split time between 2B/3B might be a way to get all a fair amount of playing time (and keep Urias out of the starting lineup).

Not sure if we’d want to do a straight platoon with Holliday/Norby at 2B, but it’s good to have options.

Quietly, Mateo ended up being a real loss for us. This team needed more righties who could hit lefties. He isn’t that good of a hitter but he would been better vs lefties than many of our lefty hitters can do.

And in this series vs KC, with all their LHP, he could have potentially been a help.

I think we're still playing if Mateo doesn't get injured because I think we win the division.  The drop-off defensively once he was out was notable.

Completely agree on Mateo and his value overall. Hopefully people remember this next season when the inevitable calls for him to not make the roster out of ST, or to be DFA at some point, will be set to begin.

Same with Urias. The value of guys like this has always been clear to anyone who looks beyond one or two stats. Not saying they will hold that value interminably, but there should be a lesson here. There won’t be, but there should be.

I was just having this discussion.  Mateo’s loss was much more damaging than anyone probably thought at the time.  He certainly has a role with his defense, position flexibility, base running, and reasonable offensive production against LHP (.799 OPS in 90 PAs - 2024).  Really, an ideal guy to have in a backup role.

Mateo and either Urias or Rivera(not sure of contract status) will likely be the backup infielder next season.

Losing Mateo hurt in the long run, but I wonder if it had some emotional affect on Henderson too. Things started to really change around that time. Probably just a conspiracy theory on my behalf,  but I guess I'm just trying to justify my disappointment with the season.
