Adley, McCann, Mayo, Holliday, Henderson, Westburg, Norby, Mounty or Santander, Mullins, Kjerstad, Cowser, Mullins and Stowers.

Can we speak this into existence?

I'd like to.  I'd be stoked about that roster, outside of Norby.

What’s wrong with Norby?  Solid platoon candidate.  He can hit.  Needs to be able to play defense in the OF adequately though.

Thoughts on Cowser's first start:

1) He looked much better in the field than he did at any point last season.  He made two nice running catches in the 4th inning I believe.  Neither was amazing but both were solid plays and showed his athleticism.

2) His first double will go down in the books as an RBI double, but it was an absolutely atrocious piece of hitting.  Man on 2nd, nobody out, 3-0 score.  He gets ahead in the count 1-0, and Palmer says, "He must get the runner over to third or drive him in, in this game situation," no sooner does he finish speaking than Cowser hits a weak ground ball to the left side of the infield.  Now, lucky for him it rolled down the third base line and into the outfield for an RBI double, but it was the exact opposite of what he should have been doing.

This was a solid start for him.  And hopefully a spring board to more playing time.

I don’t know that Hyde or Sigbot has a problem down 3-0 with just trying to get a hit versus trying to direct the ball to the right side.    You wouldn’t bunt in that situation, would you?   While trying to hit the ball to only one side of the field isn’t the same as giving yourself up it’s certainly not optimal for getting a hit.

You seem to be really into the fickleness of the OH.   LOL

Ahead in the count, hitting the ball hard to the right side of the field shouldn't be a problem.

Now, if he hit a ball HARD to the left side, your forgive it.

But up 1-0 in the count and you put a swing like that on the ball is just a bad approach.

Haha.  If he hit a ball hard it was ok?   You think these guys can hit a ball hard whenever they want?   You don’t think he was trying to hit the ball hard?

Do you want him trying to pull a ball on the outside corner or keep taking strikes until he gets something to pull?

Yes, hitting the ball hard is the point.

I don't care what he was trying to do.  They don't get paid to try to do things.  They're professional athletes.

And just like that, Kjerstad is an afterthought.

To who?  The pitch forks are coming after O'Hearn after Holliday is up.  Pitch Forks... Cowser -> Holliday -> Kjerstad/Mayo for Urias/O'Hearn -> Burnes Extension.

The guy on the mound, with the ball, he's a professional athlete as well.

Didn’t know which thread to post this in but I firmly believe our best roster end of 2024 has Jackson Holliday in CF.

1. Holliday CF

2. Henderson SS

3 Rutchman C

4 Santander RF

5 Mountcastle 1B

6 Ohearn/Kjerstad DH

7 Mayo 3B

8 Cowser LF

9 Westburg 2B

    • Rather sign Pivetta. Probably costs less and you don’t have to give up talent.  But if you get Gray cheaply and they eat some contract, he could be a plan c or d type guy.
    • In my mind, I'll be sitting right about where I was for Game 2 of the 2014 ALDS, which I think was in Section 53. In the real world, I'll be at home , probably on the sofa, with my broken ankle iced from time to time and elevated. I'll be following the game on TV and the game thread on my laptop. At least the building won't shake -- or if it does, I'll know there's a problem.  If only two of Westburg, Urias and me were going to return in time for Tuesday's opener, I guess I might as well be the odd man out.
    • Just saw it.  Mutambo died earlier today.  Who is going to be the third?
    • Gray is actually due $65M. $25M next year, $35M in 2026, and a $5M buyout on a $30M mutual option in 2027. Plus he has a no trade clause Not really any surplus value there. He could be worth close to 2/$65M, but pretty much no way he exceeds it. Doubt I would give up more than a bag of balls if they had to take on the whole contract.
    • It can’t hurt to do research on him and place a call to Cards GM & see what’s involved . We need SP help .
    • Here is my roster. Wasn't an easy task with some tough decisions C  Adley Rutschmann 2022 1B Rafaeil Palmeiro 1998 2B Brian Roberts 2009 SS Miguel Tejada 2006 3B Manny Machado 2015 OF Adam Jones 2015 OF Albert Belle 1999 OF Trey Mancini 2017 DH Chris Davis 2013          Bench Gunnar Henderson 2024 Bench Melvin Mora 2004 Bench Jay Gibbons 2003 Bench Matt Wieters 2011 --------------------- SP Mike Mussina 2000 SP Jason Johnson 2001 SP Wei-Yen Chen    2014 SP Erik Bedard 2007 SP John Means 2019          RP Jorge Julio 2002 RP BJ Ryan 2005 RP Jim Johnson 2012 RP Koji Uehara    2010 RP Zack Britton    2016 RP Felix Bautista 2023 RP Darren O'Day    2014 RP George Sherril 2008
    • You must choose a 26-man roster from 26 seasons. Here are the rules. Ignore 2020 Select 13 position players, with 9 starters and 4 bench players Select 13 pitchers, with 5 starters and 8 relievers You can only select one player from each season from 1998-2024 (exclude 2020) You can only select a given player ONCE  Starting pitchers have to be starting pitchers, relievers have to be relievers I will amend rules as appropriate from any suggestions you have. Go.
