Because it’s the last day that you can call Up a rookie and still get draft pick compensation if you win ROY. I guess that’s why they did it.

I don’t get why you don’t get the extra year, which makes me wonder about the extension.

They might have floated something to Boras and figured they had no chance so they are just going to YOLO it too, I guess.

Signing Kemp for 10 days makes no sense unless somehow his deal was a split deal. Unless it’s an injury.

Or the annual head-scratching signing of a marginal middle infielder that's now a traditional part of the New Oriole Way.

Ideally, but it takes two to tango.

Right. No one forced us to sign a guy to a major league contract who was cut by another team and has been washed for a few years.

We had other cheaper/better options.

When people who are really smart and good at their job are doing something I don't understand, i just assume they've got some smart plan/ideas others can't figure out.

I like that they're on our side.

Smart people who are good at their jobs still make dumb mistakes sometimes.

Going on vacation this Thursday…wish it was next week now.

I hear if you pee on a COVID test it makes it positive. It's not a great exit strategy, but it's an exit strategy!

They should have just called him up on OD, but I can follow the rationale. I don’t think it is necessarily a response to a Westburg injury.

-MLB team faced lots of LHP in the early games

-2 more weeks to get acclimated to 2B defense, basically extended Spring Training

-Delayed the service time vs. ROY PPI decision until the actual deadline; while a very small sample, he could have looked overmatched in those 2 weeks, and it provided 2 weeks to evaluate the other competitors for ROY (who have not done well) and the opportunity cost of Holliday v. Urias (which looks pretty big if Urias has significantly declined)

-2 weeks won’t dramatically impact his ROY chances, particularly given he missed a lot of games against LHP

With Urias performing so poorly it easily could have cost a win, and probably did on net still impact his ROY chances, so if they were going to do it they should have on Opening Day. But they eventually landed in the right place.

You win the thread.   It was a close decision whether to put him on the OD roster and I think the facts you cited moved the needle just enough before the deadline to get the draft pick if he wins ROY.  I didn’t expect this, but now that it’s happened, of course I’m excited to see how he’ll do.  I admit to being a little nervous about how his defense will go in the early part of the season, but hopefully he’ll hit enough where it’ll be eorth it to endure the growing pains.

In 24 hours the 3 youngest players in MLB will be:

  1. Jackson Chourio (20 years, 12 days)
  2. Jackson Holliday (20 years, 127 days)
  3. Jackson Merrill (20 years, 357 days)

Looks like the terrible names from the early 2000s are closing in on us. Can’t wait till the sports landscape is littered with guys named Kylan, Cannyn, Cadyn and one of those dudes is on a team that I gotta root for.
