The 2024 Trade Deadline

I only want these CF leaks to be code asking Mike Trout to think about steering himself to Baltimore.

Yes if you give us Detmers we'll take on more of the money.

LOL I figured you'd float Trout.  Playoff Trout would be fun days.  I thought about stirring the pot with Trout when mentioning Adell.

Robert would be a significant upgrade over Mullins (offensively). Not sure how much of a difference the two have defensively. But as much as I like Mullins, he has been really bad with the bat in his hand for about a season now. Second half of last season and most of the first half of this season.

Obviously the issue with Robert is his health/availability, so there would be risk there. But I wouldn't mind if Elias took a swing there, as long as this wouldn't be his only move. I would like to see Elias act bold and decisively this go round (at the deadline).

I heard that the CHI SOX wanted a "Soto like" package (that the Nats got for trading him to the Pads) back for Robert. We know that they have a recent history of over asking on players they are in theory willing to trade.

Anybody have a guess on what the realistic costs for Robert would be?

Mullins was a league average hitter last season.

I get what you are arguing according to these metrics Rodon is worse. But as I stated the context is the two blow up/bad starts out of the last eleven. Before Saturday's bad start, it would probably be different. Also IP are not factored in to the numbers that you present.

I'm not saying that you don't have any legit reasons for feeling the way you feel.

Everyone here will be thinking Robert. Elias is probably thinking Tommy Pham (Ryan McKenna replacement).

Id bet on Trevor Bauer being better in this clubhouse than Tommy Pham. No thanks.

It still seems a bit weird to me to complain about Mullins this season (well below anything he's done as of late) and pine for a guy who's currently hitting .186 with a .260 OBP and .322 wOBA. Of course, Mullins is hitting .189 with a .240 OBP and .249 wOBA (with power being the difference). Both rWAR and fWAR have them as similarly valuable players this season based on Mullins's superior defense.

Given that Mullins was the superior player in total from 2021 - 2023 (factoring in availability component of WAR counting stats), it seems silly to "dump" Mullins and throw in a bunch of premium prospects to bring in Robert.

How in the world was Mullins the superior player last year (2023)? What numbers are you using? I see one with 5.1 WAR and the other with 2.8. Maybe I am reading things wrong?

Also, Roberts has only played in 19 games this season compared to Mullins 65. So if they are anywhere close in any WAR, that is a serious indictment on Mullins.

Not in the second half. He was terrible. And has been for much of the first half of this season. And this is coming from someone who absolutely LOVES Cedric Mullins!

I don’t want Crochet

Id move Kjerstad, Bradfield, Hays/Mullins (for roster/salary purposes) and a Max Wagner type guy for Robert.

I don't want give up that much for Robert who will probably just get injured again after the O's trade for him.  WS probably want more than that.

Can you even imagine?

Ive dreamed of a Trout acquisition and then FRobby like renaissance leading us to glory and going into HOF with a bird on his cap.

Then I woke up.  But, man, just take a second and think about it.  It would be so freaking cool.

I do believe Mike Trout passes and Luis Robert fails by the metric of would it big improve the ballclub?

I just can't picture the Elias-Hyde-Mullins-Gunnar cliches if it isn't someone more reliably better.    Cedric Mullins might outplay Luis Robert any given month or week.

It doesn't have to be here but as a baseball fan I do hope Trout's well-earned choice to do more or less whatever he wants isn't the status quo.    Even if that makes him a Dodgers mercenary peak Gunnar Henderson has to try and beat.

Regular plug no insight on Trout knee rehab but I hope he'll be fit for baseball somewhere by July 30.

Cumulative "from 2021 - 2023"

Cedric Mullins

  • rWAR: 12.7 (5.9, 4.0, 2.8)
  • fWAR: 11.5 (6.0, 3.6, 1.9)

Luis Robert Jr.

  • rWAR: 10.7 (3.6, 2.1, 5.0)
  • fWAR: 10.6 (3.5, 2.2, 4.9)

"Also, Roberts has only played in 19 games this season"

^^^ And this speaks to the ongoing serious indictment of Robert (w/r/t his availability)

Who costs more prospects: Robert or Trout?  What if LAA eats 30% of the contract?  50%?

We may never know...

Pillar is having a hell of a (outlier) year. On the one hand, he'd probably be a good add. On the other hand, it would kind of remind me of the Parra trade.

I would much rather have Pillar than Robert.  I'm sure his offensive numbers are a mirage but he should still be a sizable upgrade on Mullins.  Cost: prospect in the 10-15 range?
