How far do you go to try to save this?

If Houston decides to sell both Bregman and Verlander are free agents at the end of the year. Would you be will willing to to give up Mayo to headline a pkg for half year rental  for them both? Is that even realistic?

I don't like Bregman and don't think he's a need. I wanted Verlander in the offseason, but in hindsight, I'm glad we didn't get him. I think Father Time has arrived for him.

With a front line starter out for the year and probably our best reliever so far out for months from a bullpen that already needed help, we're now looking at trying to get at least a mid-rotation starter and at least two relievers at the deadline. For that kind of help in a seller's market with so many teams still in playoff contention, I don't think the Norbys and Stowerses are going to do it. How much are you willing to give up to try to save this thing?

Question….How do we know Elias is looking for a starter? I know a lot of fans who are clamoring for a SP and at least one stud reliever. The only recent rumor I’ve seen is about a CF.

I don’t think we have enough pitching to get through the season, or start next.  Everyone is on the table if it can get us a great return.

We have enough SP depth to get us through the season currently. Maybe not win the AL East, but enough to make the playoffs.

If we trade for a SP it should be for a guy we’d want on the mound in a game 3.

I think we can get that without giving up Mayo, Basallo, and/or Holliday.

I wouldn’t pay for a “closer” per se. I would pay for an arm. I think we could get a Yimi Garcia who has more big game experience than a Mason Miller.

Again, you can get that without having to trade one of Basallo, Holliday, and/or Mayo.

Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery are really nice buy low options. Idc about their SSS numbers this year, but their career norms. I also have faith in our pitching lab to get them back on track.

My trade deadline targets would be Snell/Montgomery, Yimi Garcia, and one of Ottavino/Robertson.

Garcia just went on the IL with elbow issue

When Kremer gets back I send down Povich and keep Suarez in the rotation. That should be good enough until the deadline.

I’d give Povich a few more starts before making that move. He’s a guy we will probably need in the rotation next season - let him continue to face major league bats.

Have the Braves (and their universally lauded GM) made any “all-in” moves to “save” the season after Strider and Acuna have gone down?

I’m sure Braves Hangout is incensed that they haven’t. I don’t get the overreaction to Bradish. I didn’t get it last week when he first appeared injured either. We all said we’re not getting anything out of him this year before the season started. As for Means and Wells, the only thing we lost that I had counted on was a solid bullpen arm. It’s a good team all around. If you can shore up the back end of the bullpen without giving up anyone that is expected to contribute to the MLB team in the next year, do it. Otherwise, don’t double down because you already paid Burnes.

As am sure that you are well aware, we are tied for the least amount of losses in all of MLB (3rd best record due to game played).

IMO this is the COMPLETELY wrong way to approach things. We are 1 to 2 pieces away from being the best team hands down in all of baseball and are VERY LEGIT World Series contenders. We should approach every season with this kind of record and superstar talent the SAME.... You try to win the World Series!

Unlike some, I do not take for granted these kind of chances/opportunities. Because I know that they won't be here forever.

What is the alternative to adding in a meaningful way? Waiting until next year, when the same injury rash could happen, Burnes could be gone, and Gunnar and Adley are that much closer to free agency? Is that the plan?

There is no guarantee that ANY future season will be any better than this one. We are not "saving" or salvaging anything. I'm not even sure how that applies to a team this good? NO! What we are doing is trying to start a run of chasing championships.

Could Kjerstad get us Sonny Gray?

That's a good proposition IMO. Will STL sell? They kind of half sold last year and they are actually a bit better this year (2nd place currently around .500).

What is the rotation next year if Burnes doesn't resign? Definitely need more than rentals.

There will be FAs (none admittedly as good as Burnes) that we can sign. We have a ridiculously low payroll and aren't paying anyone.

We are not going to maintain excellence long term by only using the draft and trades to meaningfully add talent. We are going to have to use the free agent market (wisely) too.
