This doesn’t quite smack of ERod-Miller, or Davies-Parra; I cannot remember a trade of a high upside prospect for three months of a 39-year-old’s season.

I understand the arguments in favor, and McDermott has at least one serious problem, but I voted no, and I think I still vote no.

Erod- Miller helped me see my first playoff game live in my lifetime so I was good with that one!   But understand the concerns.    Wonder if Trace Bright would do it instead?

It’s probably a bit of an overpay but it’s not like McDermott would likely be a playoff difference maker in any of his potential seasons in Baltimore but Scherzer would be. I’d do the trade.

This is actually pretty good logic here. Will McDermott ever be anything more than just a regular season SP at best with us like a Cole Irvin/Dean Kremer?  If he’s just an Irvin/Kremer type then try and win a WS this year.

Irvin has actually been one of the O's better starters not named Burnes.  He's mostly pitched into the 6th inning and several times the 7th inning.  I trust him more than Povich or Suarez or Kremer (whenever he gets back).

Irvin was very good the first 2 months. Because he made the adjustment from last season and he was pounding the strike zone early in counts as the scouting report was to take because of how he nibbled last year.

But since the league had adjusted and started ambushing early, he has been really bad. He just doesn’t have the stuff/talent IMO to be an effective starting pitcher. His margin for error is so razor thin in order for him to be successful.

I like Scherzer, but I think the team should focus on someone who is under control beyond the end of the season.  Unless ownership opens its wallet in the offseason, we'll be stuck trading for pitching again very soon.  Even if we do trade for someone controlled beyond the season it's almost definite we'll need more bullpen help or another starter.
